The Jonas V thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Absolutely. I always marvel about how so few people make this obvious comparison...

HIs draft comparison was a cross betwen that guy and Noah

I think Jonas is over hyped, just like Drummond

I think Jonas is going to be worse, he's only ever truly dominated players his age or younger and only players from his region. I think he will be decent player but nothing to swoon over.

Found this interesting quip on Jonas's EU teams wiki page, calling it the worst domestic season in the teams history:

"The team also finished 3rd in the regular season round of VTB United League and qualify for the eighth finals. This is the second VTB League tournament for Lietuvos Rytas. After losing to Zalgiris in the Baltic Cup, Rytas also lost the LKL final series to Zalgiris 0:4.

This was the worst domestic season for Rytas in history; Rytas lost all 7 of its matches (6 in LKL and 1 in BBL) to its rival. Following the conclusion of the season, leaders Tyrese Rice, Lawrence Roberts, Aleksandar Rašić and Jonas Valančiūnas left the team."

complete eu stats for Jonas in case any one was curious, nothing that screams star to me.

He is not Biedrins. JV is much better offensively than Biedrins. I just realized that we could have really shored up our front court if we took JV last year and Drummond this year. Drummond could play PF with that athleticism.

You know better than that.

We prefer guys that are undersized/on the small side for their position when drafting that high.

When Biedrins was over in EU leagues his numbers were very similiar to Jonas, if not better, at each level.

Just like Jonas, Biedrins was really good against Euro's his age or younger had a decent season or two in the regular leagues and was accutally a better rebounder than Jonas when over in the EU's (number wise again)

I mean shit, they both won the Latvian League Newcomer of the Year :chuckles:

Biedriņš's professional career started at the Latvian team BK Skonto in the 2002–03 season, when he joined at age 16. He soon established himself as an impact player, appearing in 41 LBL games, averaging 2.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.32 blocks, while shooting 59.8% from the field.

For his feats, he was named Latvian League Newcomer of the Year. In eleven games for the FIBA European league (2003–2004), he averaged 18.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.82 blocks. In his second year, Biedriņš appeared in 28 LBL games, averaging 18.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.86 blocks, while shooting 61.5%from the field.[1] After that season, Biedriņš made himself eligible for the 2004 NBA Draft.[2]

The Biedrins comparisons are lame and start and stop with stats. Anyone who watches can see a much more developed offensive player. That first game against the Pistons, I saw a guy who already has some key offensive fundamental skills that takes big men over here forever to learn. That pick and roll where he was fed and finished without bringing the ball down was a move that would have made him the second overall pick in both of the last two drafts, just from showing it once.

Both he and Drummond have already shown enough to have both been 2nd overall picks in their drafts. More than one GM will lose their jobs as these guys develop. Doesnt excuse ours though.

I"m not saying Jonas isn't/won't better or doesn't have a higher ceiling right now.

I'm simply pointing out that the same things people are saying about Jonas and how he could be a top 5 center were some of the same things people were saying about Biedrins at one point in time.

It really surprises me how many people are buying into this guy while selling Dion/TT short.. No pun intended.

Thought this site was called "Real Cavs Fans" not that it shouldn't be called RCF..

Just that the "C" should stand for 'Critical' as opposed to Cavs fans..

To clarify, not calling anyone out for not being a "true fan' you are welcome to your opinions..
Just saying "the jury is still out and the glove has yet to fit so let these cats grow into it"

PS: Quit your bitching.

I was never a big JV fan, I'm not really upset at all that we passed on him. I like Tristan. Drummond hurts though, I loved that guy. You can't teach athleticism or size. Even if he never improves at all he will be a defensive stopper at center. It's so hard to find guys like that, Kwame Brown carved out an NBA career.

Good point.

Obviously you completely missed my point. The point was that, even a worst case scenario (barring Oden syndrome) he would have value in the NBA. That's if he doesn't improve at all. He could end up being the next Dwight as well. How would you feel to have that kind of player paired with Kyrie?

Don't compare Drummond to Kwame. Drummond is beyond Kwame in athleticism and measurables.

i'm just gonna keep feeding this discussion :D

That was terrible defense by Amare. JV didn't even do anything.

So where is this comment?? I posted something.

Sorry. I can't remember where I read it. May have been on Hoopshype right around the same time as the The Bullshit Whisperer quote. I didn't make it up. There was a comment from a scout that contradicted the one from The Bullshit Whisperer.
