Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not that its a rumor, just out of curiosity, how about Terrence Jones, how good of a defender he is? Whenever I watch a Rockets game this young fella gets my attention.

If we were able to make a move for Batum, which I would love mind you, and I think would help Charlotte too

Hard not to love Batum. The thing is, Charlotte loves him too and is actually building around him. He will certainly be re-signed. They stole him

I wouldn't be to sure. What a player says publicly about free agency and behind closed doors are two dramatically different things. His former team mate is a prime example.

They did steal him, are looking for an AL Jefferson replacement, and could be looking to ensure they have a SG going forward. That's all I'm saying, is he might be available.

Edit: At the time, June 20th, I seem to remember people kind of thinking I was a moron for saying Batum would be a situation to keep an eye on.

Just to be fair, Batum is a dream of mine, nothing more. That said, who knows what can happen. Who would have thought Moz/JR/Shump would come out of Dion andan exception you know.

The only way Batum becomes a possibility is if LMA leaves. I can't imagine too many teams clamoring over a near max role player.

Pretty crazy right? A month later he is in a new team, and I'm still god damn mad about it! They bought low, and could sell highish.

Jones really depends on how much of a change the Rockets want. If the Rockets want to blow it up it would be worth it to see what it would cost. Think Jones would be great for playing small ball 4 / 5 to match up when other teams go small and hasn't gone through RFA yet.

There were talks of the Rockets including him in a package for Morris awhile ago iirc. I'm pretty sure the Rockets are going to tag Brewer, Lawson or Ariza to any deal with Jones. Would probably cost the Cavs an asset that would around Shump's value and all or part of a tpe as well imo

However IMO I think it would be more important for the Cavs to find a combination of a 3 / D pg and back up for Moz (think Andy should be playing more)

Hopefully Cavs can find a 3 / D pg in exchange for MO so Delly can play the 2 on the 2nd unit or even with the starters due to what he adds on defense and running the sets. Can't start him without a good backup though. A move allowing him to start would also allow Shump and Smith to play the 2 / 3 on the 2nd unit which would hopefully give more consistency throughout games.

I would like to see the Cavs give Andy more minutes to see if they actually need to get an immediate impact paint protector or if they can search for a younger one. As noted Jones would be a decent choice for this since he can guard 2 / 3 spots on the floor, protect the rim to some degree and stretch the floor. Jones cost is probably going to be higher than we'd like, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs started looking at players like Mahinmi or Withey

Agreed.

I do watch Hornets broadcasts and have heard the announcers talk about the situation. With Jefferson down, and he will walk after the year, this is now Batum's team. The Hornets are taking the opportunity to downsize, like most of the NBA.

Have also heard interviews with Batum on those broadcasts where Batum says he is thrilled that he came to Charlotte because his role exploded there, relative to those Portland teams which were loaded.

So, just my opinion, but Batum's found the perfect situation there and will stay.

Watching the Bulls and Cavs get slaughtered by the Warriors is hopefully a wakeup call for the Cavs front office. The team as constructed now, is not good enough to win a title. The Cavs issues stem to the same issues they had last year: poor bench and bad coach. They're not going to fire the coach so they need to upgrade their bench. Specifically, they need a scoring wing player so is not a total liability on defense. James Jones, Jefferson and Mo Williams are washed up.

Agree the bench could obviously use bolstering.

Do not agree that they can't win a title as is. Stuff happens. And the Cavs stuff happens in the East.

Shit is going to hit the fan in West playoffs. Who knows who comes out, and how they come out.

I'm sure he has... I can't even fake pretend that Charlotte is a perfect situation. Far from it. Batum's a good player, but if he's the best player on your team, you're going to struggle to sniff the playoffs. Most players want to be paid and to win. If two teams offer the same money, but only one offers the opportunity to win, he's gone simply put.

Just to throw another name out there (no existing rumors or anything). What about Marcin Gortat? If the Wizards decide to blow it up - he is a lethal PnR finisher (#1 in PPP among players with more than 100 posesssions), good post-up defender (0.62 PPP compared to 0.67 PPP for Mozgov).

He has a terrible contract (especially if the Wizards decide they aren't going anywhere this year) - and that contract will become bad some day (i'd assume). But that means you could potentially get him for Varejao. Also, Dudley is a pretty reasonable fit at our 3/D vacancy.

Gortat + Dudley for AV + 2018 first Works for both sides?

It works if the Wizards decide they are out of it this year.

I wonder if the Magic will be looking to trade Oladipo at any point? He's playing a career low in minutes, and is coming off the bench.

And yes I know publicly their message is it'll have to blow them away. They aren't going to say they want to get rid of him. He hasn't seemed too happy with the bench role.

Wizards are a game out of .500 trying to keep Wall - who is a star and considers himself underpaid - happy. That sounds like a buyer, not a seller.

To us it does, no argument. But we don't run the Wizards.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they believe they still have a shot, mostly based on last year.

Given what we have to trade (exceptions, bad first round picks, some expiring contracts), there's no way we're going to get a player who is both young and useful. You can get one or the other, but getting both requires actual assets.
