Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you've watched Randolph while in Memphis, you would know that when he is locked in, no defender can stop him. He will go through or shoot over anyone, no matter what the defense gives him.

Man, we have some tough decisions to make with our big men: Hawes, Zeller, Tristan, Bennett, and Andy. You can't pay all of them.

Good thing by the time they have to worry about paying Bennett and Zeller Andy might have already retired.

I see them declining Andy's option and then signing him to a front loaded 3 year deal, kinda of like Nick Collison got from OKC about 5 years ago, like 9 mil the first year then dropping to 4 or less after that, (might be a little different with the new CBA). That contract would come up at the same time they had to make a choice on extending Bennett and would also drop to 4mil in the years were Dion and Zeller would be due for extensions, gotta love flexibility.

Who was better at 22? Andy or TT

Andy at 22 would have been his rookie year I believe, and if that's the case he was averaging 5 points, 5 boards, and playing sixteen minutes a game. It's a pretty easy call to say that Tristan is not just better at 22, but significantly better.

Except Tristan at 22 is at his ceiling as an energy big with no offensive upside. Andy got better every year of his career.

You may be selling him a bit short. With his work ethic and as he only changed hands last year, its mor than reasonable to expect that he can expand his shooting range over the next few years.

this would certainly increase his value.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

How can you say that Tristan at 22 has reached his ceiling, but Andy at 22 got better every year? Why would that not apply to Tristan as well? I think it would apply to TT even more than Andy, considering the considerable strides Tristan has already made in his 3 years. There is no reason to believe that he has hit his ceiling already.

edit: errr...I guess i missed the sarcasm too. :dunno:

To be fair that sarcasm was pretty hard to catch. If you know his posting history though you'd know that he's a pretty big TT fan.

Tristan needs to have another summer or 3 to let the shooting become natural. It is a possibility to become a half-capable shooter from 10 feet out but he's confusing his shooting with his push shots. It's extremely hard to push shot 10-15 feet away. He already has figured out some of the defensive sets and plays hard. He just needed someone who stretches the floor unlike Andy and someone big enough to overcome his lack of height so he doesn't guard centers. If he ever becomes a night in-night out 15-10 threat, we're going places based on the direction. And if we ever upgrade without losing him, he makes for a high quality off the bench guy with small ball tendencies.

Unfortunately, I don't know how the negotiations will look with him, so be prepared if he isn't here between 1-3 years. I'll be his fan no matter what.
