Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This gets said all the time and I never really understand why considering he just spent almost this entire season on the bench. He's spent 45% of his NBA career coming off the bench. How can we say he will never accept it when he has been accepting it for two years?

He hasnt been saying he accepts. Hes just professional about it and tolerates it. Hes come out and said he should be a starter so yeah I dont think in his heart he accepts it but hey. What power does he have?

sigh..... he's been said he thinks he's a starter in this league

He should be a starter in this league. He was averaging almost twenty points a game on around 45% shooting in March and April playing starter minutes.

Dion Waiters should be a starter and has all-star potential. End of story.

There's a certain prestige that comes with being a starter. I guarantee if you ask any of the 6th man candidates they would also say they are starters in the league. I have no problem with him thinking that he has the talent and game to be a starter. If he would of quit on the team because he wasn't starting then I would say he would never accept coming off the bench. Let's just give Kyrie and Dion a whole season starting together and see what happens. I feel like limiting Dion to 6th man role would hinder his long term potential.

Pretty much a goner now. Griffin will probably get his way. At the very least, I would expect Thompson to be moved to the bench.

with an extension looming, i'd guess the odds of that least case scenario are pretty slim. hopefully.

His best stretch of basketball of his two year career was at the end of this season when he was starting every game and getting consistent minutes. Did people already forget about that?

What does that prove? It's generally true for most players that their individual numbers will improve the more consistent minutes they get. But what is best for an individual player's development/performance is not necessarily what is best for the team as well.

I'm not saying Dion shouldn't start, but pointing to how his individual numbers improved when he did does not prove the point.

Again, that's true for most players. The more you play, the more opportunity you have to improve your game.

That being said, why we need the 1000th interation of the same Dion arguments in the Tristan thread is a mystery to me.

It's pretty clear that playing Dion more minutes was best for the team as well.

Good to see him sticking with the right hand, so far.

He wants to add a jumpshot. Good. He also needs to rewire his brain to shoot. That is a different process altogether. Good for him for working, but we need to move on.

Then that's the argument that should be made -- supported by stats if you're going to use them at all. Pointing out that it is best for Dion isn't what most Cavs fans consider the key issue. As I said, virtually every young player is going to put up better numbers if given more time to play.

Los said "I swear he's (Dion) better when coming off the bench." Jack challenged that by saying that the best stretch of Dion's career was towards the end of last season when he was starting. You're making something out of nothing and arguing with yourself.
