Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Two weeks since anyone has posted about Marion? He really seems to be showing his value lately. He just does so many things well, but I guess nothing jumps out at you if you're not watching closely.

His length, quickness, defense, and ability to fit in seamlessly is such a big plus on this team.

Definitely better than expected. With 2 huge ball dominators, 1 more guy looking to get some of the bulk of the offense, the fear of ISO, and the dreaded age factor, you'd think The Matrix would average shit like 12mins 2pts 1reb a game. Clearly not the case. He's been very huge. That's what she said.

People don't post anything when a roleplayer plays well, but the matrix has been great. He was one of the only ones giving effort besides Andy from day one.

Marion has to have some serious fast twitch fibers. Catches me by surprise every game that hes able to get up so quickly for how old he is. He just seems to get his hands on everything.

Combine that with his length and you can see why hes been a stud his entire career despite having one of the ugliest shots in the history of the NBA.

Marion's got a lot of gas left in the tank. He could play for a few more years if he wanted to. He is exactly what I thought he'd be here. Great glue guy.

Would love to duplicate him. The only other guy who I can think would be someone like AK-47 (long, plays multiple positions, willing to defend) but unlike Marion I don't know how much he has left in the tank. Anyone else can think of a reasonable comparison to Marion right now: I mean kind of crazy the guy went from playing PF with the Suns to starting at SG for us for the first time in his career in his late 30's

The guy has a seriously high BB IQ, which is why he's meshing with Blatt. Blatt trusts him to run system "gimmes" like back door cuts, running the break correctly, getting in passing lanes and keeping the ball in play, etc.

There is trust being built here.

I'd also add that while the Miller/JJones signings got us on the right track (like Donyell/Damon the 1st time around), Marion will have more impact in turning us into a well-rounded team (like Mo Williams gave us a dimension we didn't have at the time).

Agreed, when you get these guys on their last legs, they become known for one tool, defense only or shooting only, Marion is a breath of fresh air where you don't have to limit his PT because of a one tool skill set. The guy doesn't need the ball to play at full speed on either end of the court, he can guard the ball, play off the ball, fast break ensues, he's leading out on the wing at full speed, in the half court he understands different offensive systems having played with 2 of the best PG's in Nash and Kidd.

Unfortunately I had to miss most of tonight's game, but based on the box score and his last many performances, Marion is borderline a worthless corpse out there. At least offensively.
