Now, it's early, so there is plenty of time for teams off to a hot start to implode (think Portland last year), but here's a list of assets that are or might be available at the deadline (based on current sketchy play, bad contracts, full rosters, or just pure guesses). Not saying whether these are assets I'd want or not, but lets start the discussion.

Who of this list would you want? Anyone you'd add on there?

Jeff Green
Al Horford
Josh Smith
Brook Lopez
Carlos Boozer
Wilson Chandler
Danny Granger
Roy Hibbert?
DeAndre Jordan
Eric Bledsoe
Pau Gasol
Amare Stoudemire
Toronto 1st rounder via OKC
Andrew Bynum
LaMarcus Aldridge
DeMarcus Cousins
Jason Thompson
Tyreke Evans
Paul Milsap
Al Jefferson

Any of the guys I put in bold would be fine. Granger is still injured...so I'd have to pass on him, even though it would be intriguing to get Granger, IF healthy.

Andy for Cousins would be interesting and he'd fit perfectly within our system since he's an offensive big man who can shoot and rebound. Andy could get some leadership on a team that direly needs it, and Cousins would be in a supportive enough of a system where he might be more successful although he could go along either really well or really poorly with Scott because of Scott's toughness. All I know is that Cousins has superstar talent when he's motivated, and he'd get all the touches he could muster if he came to Cleveland. It might be a risk worth taking if it were to somehow be an option.

I believe there is too much chemistry developing between Kyrie and Andy to trade AV. It could really sour the young star to lose that now. Plus, we already have (at least) five first round picks in the next three drafts, plus what look to be two extra high second round picks; I'm not sure how badly we want another mid-late lottery pick or lower.

I can agree that Cousins would be awesome on this team if we were strictly talking about his talent. I just don't think the dude will ever be level in the head, regardless of what team he is playing for. I could see him playing for the Heat and still bitching about everything and causing problems.

As far as shooting goes... is it fair to say he can shoot? Honestly I don't know, that is something for the guys who like to analyze shot charts and whatever else. Strictly looking at his FG%, however, I'd assume he isn't the best shooter. For a dude who is 6'11", one would think he would be well above a 55% clip, yet he is currently below 43%.

If we can get him for just Andy, let me know where to sign.

Andy for Cousins? No. HELL no.

The Cavs need to stay far, far away from Cousins.

Looks like "No" is winning out.

Comparable threads in past years seemed to be slanted towards "Yes," and nothing big ended up happening.

Therefore, sound judgement suggests we will. :chuckles:

Or people have stopped getting their hopes up? :chuckles:

I think the cavs will work hard to try and get more assets for this or the following draft (after that they must surely be done) but teams are not that willing to make deals, Andy's value is high but not with the teams we want to deal with. So i went with a boobie trade.

This.

I'd love to get some amazing deal for Andy, but if one doesn't come then so be it. Cousins, however, should not be on this team. Dion Waiters might already be a little head strong. Kyrie already has some bad habits. What we do not need is Mr. Can't Get Alone With Anyone Ever coming to this team and being an absolutely horrible influence on a young team.

I don't see how we can get much more assets...we already have so many picks going into this draft. I understand we can trade to move up...but still. If Varejao has to go, I'd like to see the Cavs get a player that is young and skilled in return. And not a rental either.

i dont see any way portland lets aldridge go without many firsts in the deal, so i am not keen on that one. Cousins would be interesting if he comes for little more than Andy. Hibbert is not playing great right now, but i think that team without grainger just is not effective, and Vogel has not managed this well. Hibbert in the middle with
kyrie, Dion on the outside, and with Thompson or Zeller off the bench, would be better in my opinion than Andy, and have five years of longevity in him.

As much as I love Andy, his stock is at it's absolute highest right now and this team is not going anywhere for 2 or 3 years. I guess I look at the career arc of a guy like Ben Wallace and it makes me really nervous about not cashing in on Andy when we have a chance. The 10 year age gap between AV and our next best players is just too large in my opinion. Even if we can make the playoffs next season, history shows that you usually have to take your lumps for several years before you can break through. That means we could be looking at a 34 or 35 year old Andy when the rest of the squad is ready to be serious contenders.

A deal with OKC just makes way too much sense. They need one more piece to put them over the top and have the assets available to get our attention. Toronoto's pick and a young player or two and that is a deal Grant has to really consider. At the very least, you pile on more very tradeable pieces for when the Cavs are ready to make their win now splash.

That would hopefully give you two cracks at landing another star at the top of next year's draft. At that point, you hopefully only need one big FA signing or one impact trade and you have the main core established. Then, it's just the details of filling in a competent bench and finding the coach that can lead you to the promised land.

I think we can all agree that when Andy came into the league, he was severely limited offensively. He's still somewhat limited in a classical sense, but he's managed to turn himself into a walking double-double. Right now, one of the "building blocks" on this team is a young big that is severely limited on offense. Why would the team move Andy, when there's so much he could teach Thompson?

You really can't overstate the importance of veterans for a young team. I know the common retort has been, "so what? Just go sign some vet scrub to be a mentor." That's nice and all, but there's only so much you can TELL someone. Actually seeing it out on the floor, being able to tell a young guy what to do, then go out and do it in a game to back up what is being said? That's so much more important.

While it makes sense for us, i think they might do better with that pick and the young guys. Whose to say Boston doesnt decide to blow it up and send KG out for Perk and the kids and the toronto pick. As far as it goes, it would be a better player for KD, and the C's would wind up with a great start to the rebuild. Lamb, PJ and a decent pick.

i think you could make the same case for several older teams if things arent better by the deadline...
