Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I just think its funny.. I personally like Hickson and think he has a good future, but almost everyone here thought Hickson had no future, would never play defense and his small hands were too much to over come. Now you're getting mad we didn't get an unprotected pick from the Kings of all teams?

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Buzz, your pick protection, WOOF!

First on the Sacramento Kings bandwagon.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Well, I know Hickson isn't very good and never expected to get a high draft pick for him, but we are never going to see this draft pick. I can't see a time in the next 5 years that Sacramento isn't picking in the top 10. Evans is overrated and a ball stopper, and they will have the worse defense in the league for the foreseeable future. This deal was essentially Hickson for Casspi, which just sucks.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I understand that people may have negative reactions to this trade considering the extreme protection on the pick (I mean WTF on the protection?!?!). But those same people are a bit off on their odds of two different things, IMO:

1) The odds that Sacramento makes the playoffs in the next few years are actually not that bad. I think the team they're building is young and full of talent, it's just that the talent is built to peak at being 1st round fodder in the playoffs. A less impressive Memphis Grizzles IMO. But yes, I do think they're built to make the playoffs in the next 2-3 years, depending on other moves made in the West.

2) The odds of a looooong lockout this season are actually very high. That means that once this lockout starts (is it tomorrow?), no transactions will be made. It may be that we lose our chance to make ANY moves (including a different move for JJ). And no way the Cavs and JJ would agree on terms for a new contract, he's going to demand waaaay more money than he's worth (and he would've found more money than what the Cavs would have been willing to offer him).

Admittedly, I don't know a ton about Casspi. But at least he fills a need at SF, and we clear up our PF logjam a bit. And regardless of the protection on the Kings pick, the bottom line is Grant and the Cavs are looking to acquire as many trade assets as possible. That is NEVER a bad thing.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I look at the deal this way:

JJ for:

Casspi
Bumping up from the 6th pick in 2012 to the 3rd or 4th pick
#12-15 pick in 2013 or 2014

And whether that's logically sound or not, I'm cool with that

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

The protection on the pick is pretty crazy; god I hope the Kings turn it around fast.

I get this trade though and wish Hickson the best. Welcome Casspi!

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I like this trade a lot. Gets us a 1st rd pick from a team that will probably not be very good. I am just glad the headache of Hickson is finally gone. Betta get my Donuts
Them not being very good is the problem. We need them to play over their heads to get a pick.

We didn't get any pick unless the Kings pick outside of the top 10 in the next 5 years, which will not happen.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

John Hollinger, basically the king of advanced basketball metrics, thought he was the 3rd best player in the draft. Not sure after that, most would admit that 3-15 in the draft were pretty much the same type of player. Certainly not enough of a reason to be as pissed as you were/are about TT.
Hollinger is maybe the king of publicly available advanced basketball metrics, but I'm pretty sure teams utilize better guys.

But still, everyone knows his metrics are very offensive-biased and a players ability on defense is tremendously undervalued. I'm pretty sure it's fair to question him when the stats project a guy like TT ( horrid offense, good defense) to be the 3rd best player in the draft.

Oh well. If I'm right, at least the Cavs will still be drafting early so they will have even more opportunities. If I'm wrong, then cool, maybe Grant actually is capable of building a contender.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Alot of speculation on what JJ Hickson would have POSSIBLY cost us on the RFA market under a new CBA, in order to justify this trade.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Those guys won't stay in SAC though.

If the current CBA rookie structure holds up, they will if the Kings offer them the cash.

Casspi's girlfriend:

...and it all makes sense.

Great work Grant!

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

One thing to consider, today may have been the last time the Cavs have a chance to trade Hickson to anyone. If season gets entirely locked out, only option next summer would be a S&T with Hickson - and there's a good chance S&Ts will no longer exist in the new CBA. Good move to trade him while we still can.
