2011 NBA Redraft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not surprised that u18 talent isn't on par with the NCAA. U18 is high school aged kids. I'm sure Koufos dominated at Glen Oak to the same degree he dominated the u18 tourny.
alot of valanciunas's draft hype came from the domination of this tourney (or was it the u19 tourney? either way).

Knight scared me because I just don't see him ever looking great running an offense. Williams seems like one of those 3/4 tweeners that dominate in college but have trouble adjusting in the NBA. Loved Kawhi Leonard and still do. Talk about a steal.

Im sure some of the hype came from his u19 performance, but he was also doing very well professionally. He wasn't being hyped because of a single tournament but rather his entire body of work.

i didn't like leonard. well, not at 4 at least. seems the spurs knocked their draft pick out of the park...yet again. i am quite jealous of their front office.

i really like what faried is doing in denver, altho it took them a while to get him on the court for significant minutes. had he played this much and this well from the start he'd be in the running for ROTY

im sorry, but im very shaky on how the euro system works. in his previous body of work, was he playing against kids his age or men of all ages? its also my understanding (excuse me if im wrong) that there are several different leagues in lithuania. i see that he played in perlas, and im not sure how that ranks as far as euroleague goes. i do think he is one of the best international prospects, im just not sure what to make of his performances since all ive seen has been against pretty inferior competition. i mean andre drummond wouldve been drafted higher straight out of high school, but he has struggled mightily in college. i think he has major bust potential thats been revealed by the higher competition. i just dont trust the euro talent levels, but that could be because of ignorance and a lack of watching (excuse me if thats the case, i dont really have any time to watch euroleague).

can anyone guess this 7 footer who posted these numbers in the u18 tourny while becoming a household name for nba scouts?

26.5 pts/game 13 rbg and 3.5 bpg?

he was the MVP by the way, despite his team losing.

Wow in a U18 tourney.

Can anyone guess who this is against other NBA players in the actual NBA, in one of his first starts?

27 pts and 12 rebounds

I know having a position like Center filled can be nice but you draft for talent not to just fill a position

the example i gave was koufos, not jonas, and to prove a similar point to the one you are making..

Jonas has been playing against grown men for each of the past two seasons in the EuroLeague. He still plays on the Lithuanian national teams u19 and such as well.

I guess I just didn't see him as much of a risk. Guys with a motor like his dont fail often. I think he has a high floor and a very high ceiling.

Im not going to sweat the Jonas stuff. No one knows how good he will be in the NBA yet. I will be here to eat crow if/when we are all positive Jonas was the better pick. But we got some time yet guys, But like I said earlier, its not like he is going to be the Raptors missing piece. He will suffer just as much playing for the Raptors as we would for not picking him (if he's a beast). The fact is, the Raptors don't have a chance in hell of ever being a Finals contender. Not that that has anything to do with Jonas, but if it is true about his agent telling us he was staying two years overseas, than I would rather him suffer over there.

Yeah one game that he finally started, and got significant minutes. Not to mention he at showed his offensive game is progressing nicely.

I am sure Big V will be a good player but no one at this time can compare the two whatsoever, since one of them hasn't even played 1 min of a NBA game.

Jonas did very well in U18 and U19's. He dominated the US team got something like 30 and 15 against a Meyers Lenard and Patric Young. Of course the U19 came after the draft but against competition his age, Jonas has done very well. In the Lithuanian and Euroleague he's playing against much older, more physically developed players

Jonas does great in the Lithunaian and VTB leagues, but those leagues are not top talent at all. The strongest league he's playing in right now is eurocup and thats the 3rd best league in Europe after ACB.

If you look at Jonas' Euroleague numbers, they are not nearly as exciting. Players that have close to NBA leg strength frequently make Jonas look like Lance Aldred.

And in his two other games where he started, he put up these numbers:

10 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 0.5 apg, 1 bpg, 8-17 shooting (47%), 50% FT... 38 mpg

Look, I hope Thompson proves to be the correct pick too, but declaring one to be better than the other when we're just over halfway through a strike-shortened season is ridiculous.

ADDED: Though it looks like we are on the same page about comparing them.

Fun fact, our 6'4 "center" put a few slick moves on Doofus Koofas back in the day and made him look silly.
