Gilbert buying Indians soon ?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Has Dan Gilbert gone through an attitude change the last two years, because the Cavs are borderline unwatchable if it weren't for Kyrie Irving.

DAN GILBERT IS THE WORST!!!!!!

Honestly, what do you want from the man?

Please explain how the cavs going through a rebuild is a commentary on Dan Gilberts attitude?

Many teams are unwatchable without their best player.

His motivation is trickling down to the team because he wants to win, or so I've been told.

That's what my comment was in reference to.

I was asking if his attitude changed in the last two years, since the Cavs suck now.

Does DG no longer care about winning?

I'd like to know what Forbes thinks and follow them blindly before I forge a real opinion.

The Indians are the worst.

no I think he wants to own a losing team.

He's in the wrong city then. :chuckles:

no I think he wants to own a losing team.

He's succeeded admirably.

And while I see your sarcasm, you actually do believe Larry Dolan doesn't want to win...which is more my point.

very valid point, but the point im trying to make is that the dolans are the first to cry wolf when they are operating at a loss, but when they are pointed out to operating on a profit, they call bullshit on the numbers. i have no problem with them running at a profit as long as they put money back into the squad to make it competitive. after all, you dont own a professional sports team to make money. there are ulterior motives behind owning a sports team (want to win, loyalty, etc.).

What if the numbers are actually BS? I'd bet they made money too, but we're always so quick to assume that Dolan is lying to us. And, to just about everyone who complains, putting money back into the team means splurging on free agents. I'm not upset that they didn't overpay anyone this year. But I do want to see them get extensions for Masterson and Santana.

No I just think he doesn't have the money to win.

Well, no shit. But neither would any other owner- including Gilbert. Fans continue to delude themselves if they think that different ownership would have kept Lee and CC. The Tribe would be built the exact same way as the Cavs if he was owner- building through the draft, losing stars to free agency, and trying to build small windows of contention. Maybe, like the 30 mil the team paid for Kyrie, the Tribe would have bought a Cespedes or an Aroldis Chapman, but that would be about it. I just don't see what more he would bring to the table, other than maybe more revenue from maximizing streams but that is just an uneducated assumption. Still wouldn't keep the stars here, not when they have 20m/200m contracts waiting from other markets that could spend 1/3rd to half as much on salary as the Tribe.

Other than Detroit, can you point to a small market team that spends more money than the Indians?

The whole 'we'll spend when the time is right' thing bites Dolan in the ass - but look at it this way - in 2008 and 2009 they had a payroll right around $80 million.

Can you point to small market teams (that have income like small markets - ie - not St Louis) that significantly outspent the Indians?

This is a serious question - I want you to go look at MLB payrolls and find all these teams that are run differently financially than the Indians. Milwaukee and Cincinnati were both going for it last year and had payrolls of $80 million and $70 million respectively. Hell, Texas just signed that GIANT TV contract and had a payroll of $92 million.

If you want to knock the decisions the front office has made, I understand, but please separate the FINANCIAL COMMITMENT of the Dolan from the baseball decisions.

If you ARE going to knock the Dolan's financial commitment - please point to teams in similar situations who are run so differently.
