2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They're gonna spend both 1st round picks on PF's even though they have Brandon Bass on the roster?

I've seen Royce White listed as a possible SF... and obviously Sullinger as a C. However, I doubt Bass would deter them from taking either (or both).

A Bobcats-Cavs swap of picks makes sense

After calling some sources with lottery picks Saturday, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Charlotte Bobcats and Cleveland Cavaliers swap draft picks in Thursday’s draft. In that sort of a deal, the Bobcats would pick fourth and 24th and the Cavs would move up to No. 2.

From the day he became part of this front office, general manager Rich Cho has talked about gathering extra assets, and that generally means extra first-round picks. It’s a strategy the Oklahoma City Thunder leaned on when Cho was part of that front office.

Generally I’m not a fan of swapping quality for quantity in the NBA draft, but this might be the exception. Three long-time draft scouts all told me roughly the same thing; that after Kentucky’s Anthony Davis goes No. 1 to New Orleans, there won’t be a big difference between the next three to five players chosen.

I think picks 2 through 4 will be some order of Kansas’s Thomas Robinson, North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes and Florida’s Bradley Beal. (Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could fall to, and perhaps past, the Sacramento Kings at No. 5).

Say, for the sake of argument, that the Bobcats don’t have a huge preference between Robinson, Barnes or Beal. Coming off a 7-59 season, the Bobcats have holes to fill everywhere, so adding a second first-round pick could be worth dropping from 2 to 4. Cho’s Thunder sure made out well in 2008, picking Serge Ibaka 24th overall.

Why might the Cavs do this? Just a guess, but I wonder if Cleveland has a strong preference for one player (Beal?) who they see the Washington Wizards drafting third. Cleveland has a potential superstar in point guard Kyrie Irving and a young big man in Tristan Thompson. A wing scorer is logically next on the to-do list.

Sullinger listed as a C?

lol.

Sullinger is definitely a center. The only reason we call him a PF is because he is only 6'9". He still has a decent 7'1.25" wingspan and it's not like his 270 lb frame is going to be overpowered on the block. I'd rather have him guard someone like Dwight Howard instead of a "real center" like Fab Melo guarding Dwight. Chuck Hayes played center at 6'6" 250 lbs with a 6'10" wingspan so I'm pretty sure Sullinger can handle it. People need to stop classifying players' positions by their height and instead use their skills.

I have wanted MKG since I saw the kid play in high school.

I wont be upset with Beal, I think the kid could be a great fit next to Kyrie, I just really wanted MKG

I'd be completely fine doing that. As the article said, the Cavs highly value putting a scorer on the wing next to Kyrie. Barnes has suspect handles and isn't very aggressive, and while MKG could be a great defender and works really hard, he has along way to go offensively. Giving up the 24 doesnt really matterto me as I believe we are going to acquire another 1st anyway. If they value Beal that much more than Barnes and MKG, I say do what you need to do to get him.

I just don't see the point of moving the 24th pick when the Cavs are likely to get one of Beal or MKG. I can't imagine both players getting picked before the 4-spot.

Personaly I love Beal, and I would love to get him. If all it takes is #24 then you do it.

I hope so. The Cavs need to add some talent. While I understand that the chances of hitting on #24 are slim it does happen on occassion. If they can package their 2nd rounders to get back into the 1st I would be OK with this.

If we do trade our 24th, would love to package the other 2 to move up.

Just think whoever we pick 4th would be a vast improvement (of course) then still pick 24th, then trade up for another.

Guess we'll see.

If we think Beal has even just a 5% greater chance of being a star than MKG or whoever else is there at 4 then trading a late first rounder is nothing.

But if the Cavs like one higher than the other then they should. To me, moving the 24th means nothing. That should not be the deal breaker, if Beal is the guy they really want.

I mean, the Cavs are likely to package both second round picks for a late first anyways. It's no real loss.

I would definitely move up to grab Beal. I've said for awhile I thought he was the clear number 2 guy in the draft.

Nothing against MKG, I'd be fine drafting him, but I much rather have Beal.

This is just me throwing something out there, and I'm not even sure it would be that great of an idea. But just imagine the possibile fun this team could be if it took MKG at 4 and then moved up into the top 10 and took Rivers. Irving, Rivers, and MKG running around the perimiter. That would be a crazy fun team to watch.
