post 121 - OJ Mayo UFA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's nothing wrong with a player coming off the bench. Harden and Ginobili in particular would start on a lot of teams in the NBA.

They should start though. But good analogy.

They are there to lead the second unit and provide a spark. Pops has won rings because of Ginobili being there. Brooks has coached his team to a finals.

I'd be pretty surprised if Waiters turned out better than Mayo. I'm not ready to invest our future starting 2 guard as Waiters. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but IMO Mayo would be a huge upgrade

You do realise that Mayo is a total bust?

the word bust is very outplayed, any guy who can make it in the league for multiple seasons is hardly a bust

Not necessarily.

Busts are usually given chance after chance, due to where they were drafted and/or teams looking to find lightning in a bottle.

oj mayo was touted as one of the next great guards to come out of college then drafted 3rd overall.

in the nba he has been no more than an average player. if someone gets drafted that high, esp with his expectations, and turns out to be average....that's a bust. in terms of actual talent he's a fringe starter that just happens to play at one of the most watered down positions.

the only reason people are at all interested in him is because of his name.

While he hasn't quite lived up to expectations the fact he averaged over 15 pts a game in his 4 years in the league and averaged almost 19 his rookie year at least can lend one to the opinion that the 24 year old has possible potential. Someone is going to sign him to a hefty contract that he will not be worth though.

New Jersey seemed like a logical landing spot for him Mayo. He was their backup plan but if this Joe Johnson thing goes down and Deron Williams resigns, they will have no need for him.

I could see the Hawks going after Mayo with the way Ferry has been wheeling and dealing over the last 12 hours

OJ Mayo would be a good replacement for Boobie Gibson. The problem is, though, that the Cavs need a SG/SF type player, not so much a PG/SG. I wish Shane Battier/Anthony Parker were younger and available for this team. Also, how is OJ Mayo going to react to being a bench lightning rod on a team that will be, at best, a low playoff seed.

OJ Mayos venture into free agency.

when I think of busts I think Ryan Leaf, Darko etc.. not OJ Mayo, I think disappointment sure but hardly bust

Wouldn't be surprised of miami grabs him on the cheap. Wades boy and he'll take him under his wing.
