Sorry, but if Howard decides he wants to come here, we'd be stupid to turn him down. Whiny bitch he may be, but he's still one of the better players in the entire league and, if a guy like that wants to come to Cleveland, we don't tell him to fuck off.

I'm pretty sure the odds of Dwight Howard wanting to come to Cleveland are about equivalent to the odds of Larry Nance coming out of retirement and leading us to the Finals.

Let's just leave it at that. This is a thread about us tanking. You can go rev up the Howard safari thread if you want.

No shit. I entertain no delusions about Howard wanting to play here. I was just responding to those people above who said they didn't want him here and let them know that they're idiots and that, if Howard were open to coming here, our front office couldn't pay him fast enough.

Simply, you just don't pass over on a top-ten player in the NBA because he's a diva.

Before answering the tank or not tank question, we really need to evaluate where the team is. Our record doesn't show it yet, but we're really in the best shape we've been since LeBron left. And we're much improved even from the start of this young season. We've lost a few games lately simply because we couldn't close them out while our closer has been out injured.

We have two all star caliber players and a few other pieces. We need a top 10 SF, a quality big, more efficiency form Waiters, more consistency from Tristian. Zeller is already playing well enough for a backup C and will only improve.

If we could find a way to get those 2 players now, just how good could we be?

We need one more good draft pick, and then we can worry about filling out this team. Like I've been pushing all season thus far, if we can get Muhummad and Len from this draft by somehow getting the OKC pick (I know, I know), we could have both of those things AND still have our cap space with which to work. Varejao would have to go, but I've already stated my case as to why it will be more beneficial in the long run that he leaves.

getting a good draft pick by moving Andy is at best a lateral move. We have a ton of cap space and a ton of draft pick assets. And there are teams that will become desperate to clear cap space because of the new luxury tax rules.

Most lottery teams are not over the cap. And the OKC/TOR pick is lottery guaranteed.

I think those two will be the first two picks of the draft, so I see no chance of us getting both. Just getting one will be a very difficult challenge.

I'm not talking about acquiring a lottery pick, I'm talking about acquiring proven NBA talent without giving up our core pieces. Someone like a Danny Granger. Who knows who the player or players will be, but it's pretty much guaranteed that someone of his ability or better will be available at some point this season. This is a pretty unique situation, the new CBA is going to change the way teams operate and we are perfectly positioned to take advantage of the change.

The problem with gunning for lottery picks again is you stay in the cycle where you end up with a team where Kyrie is waiting for the players around him to develop.

Keeping Andy over a lottery pick and/or picking up an overpaid less-than star like Granger severely undersells the future of our core. Is anyone else more interested in contending in the long-term than being pretty good for the next 5 years??

Lol Danny Granger wouldn't even help us make the playoffs this year, let alone the next 5. He's not a player that turns us into a contender. Personally i'm more interested in 5 years from now than I am this year. Why sacrifice the future of our franchise for potentially one or two good seasons. Thankfully Grant is in the same boat I am, and not KI.

The problem with getting players like Danny Granger is that they would leave as soon as their contract is up or we would be on that famous treadmill. It's draft or nothing for our starters.

What do you mean by that? We're signing Dwight this year, and LeBron next year in free agency.

what sacrifice? Right now we have a huge hole at starting SF that some think may get filled in 2014. A player like Granger (who I just used as an example) helps fill out our roster and expires in 2014. Even without the 2014 issue, SF is clearly the position we lost the most at on a night in and night out basis. Pick up a Granger caliber player and a comparable big and this team would be very, very good.

They really wouldn't be good enough to make the playoffs much less win it all. And you make it sound like that's so easy just to pick up a SF that can put up 20 points a game and a comparable big. That's not going to happen unless we draft them.

in the past year these players have been traded

Chris Paul
Dwight Howard
Andrew Bynum
Andre Iguodala
James Harden
Tyson Chandler

All players at or above Danny Granger's level. The new luxury tax rules make teams more likely to trade high salary players. The new trade rules makes it harder to find trading partners. We have been patient and put ourselves in prime position to take advantage of the next wave of teams moving proven top tier talent. We have two all star caliber players on the roster. We aren't missing all that much to be very, very good. We are on the verge of winning quite a few more games with the roster as it stands today.
