Re: Browns coaching search *Chip Kelly out* post#1612

The problem is that there are no perfect candidates out there.

I disagree.

I'd call Lovie Smith, if not perfect, then damn near close to it.

Re: Browns coaching search *Chip Kelly out* post#1612

Sheard blew this year in the 43. Maybe the 34 would be better for him.

Part of the issue is that we don't have a decent pass rusher opposite of Sheard, which means pass protection schemes can always be shifted his way and they never really have to worry about the other DE. Put another good pass rusher opposite of Sheard and things open up for everyone on the line.

I hear you. I'm not infatuated with the guy. I think he would be solid. The problem is that there are no perfect candidates out there.

Treat David Shaw the same way they treated Kelly and see what it gets you. Take another crack at Saban. I'd be willing to go wayyyy outside the box and ask Charlie Strong what his thoughts are.

I promise there is a better option out there than a guy whose best season was 9-7.

Id love David Shaw or Charlie Strong...Sign me up

Not a big Whisenhunt fan, but he went .500 or better in 4 of his 6 seasons in Arizona. Could be worse.

Yeah, you can do a lot when you have Kurt Warner.

I disagree.

Perfect defensively, but awful on offense. I said this before and I'll say it again if you think Forte and Cutler looked bad, just wait till you see Weeden and Richardson.

Re: Browns coaching search *Chip Kelly out* post#1612

Conveniently left out that they then went 0-12.... TWELVE GAMES IN A ROW.

Injuries and the worst offensive line in the history of the NFL can do that to you.

Re: Browns coaching search *Chip Kelly out* post#1612

Lovie Smith- Major questions about his offense.
Nick Saban- Didn't do well in Miami
David Shaw- Heard they aren't interested but just resigned as well.

I'd prefer any of them over Whisenhunt though.

I think Gruden and Cowher are overrated and happy to keep doing what they do and preserve their positive images.

Arians just feels meh.

I think the Browns make a run at another college coach. They seem to like the idea of guy who built a program, created a culture as evidence by interest in O'Brien, Kelly, and Marrone.

Re: Browns coaching search *Chip Kelly out* post#1612

Nothing wrong with going 3-4. Our 4-3 defense was pretty bad last year and actually took a step back. Either way it needs multiple personal upgrades.

We need to stop changing the defense. Keep it the way it is, the most important thing is consistency. We're going to be turning it over again in another three years.

The Eagles had a terrible line and still didn't look like horse shit compared to Arizona.

As did the Packers and they made the most out of it.

So kick the tires on Charlie Strong. Teams run through walls for that guy, he's defensive minded but still runs a pro-style offense. It'd be outside the box but I think a homerun hire.

I'm not huge on Lovie Smith. He's an awful clock manager, and it baffles me when Head Coaches don't know proper times to use timeouts. It tells me there is something missing....

When you have a young defense and they got worse in the second year, and they are a poor unit overall, every option to fix is going to be on the table. Even very big ones.

Forte is a good back, but lets not get carried away. The guy isn't ridiculously good. And Jay Cutler throws interceptions like it is his job sometimes. I'm not going to pin that on Lovie.

He's 52, I'm not sure he wants the commitment of an NFL job, but hopefully Haslam makes a phone call.
