Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think this is my point. normally you wouldn't trade the number one pick for a wide receiver, regardless of greatness. But, noone thinks bridgewater is the next dominant quarterback. This could be the browns only chance to take a shot at a top quarterback.

Yeah, i wouldn't do it either, especially since the gap of QB's isn't that bad to the number one, to where we are. He's not Andrew Luck

Besides, I got one name, Russell Wilson. This notion we need a top pick to get a franchise QB is just an illusion.

I'd love to say I'm confident they'll keep Gordon, but I am still not. I still says its 50/50 he gets moved on draft night. That scares me too. We are not in position to be trading away good let alone great talents like him. Only a backwards franchise like us would do that thinking it means progress.

I must have been looking at years pro or something. But I digress... Impressive nonetheless what Pittsburgh has been able to find in the deeper rounds.

Well, that's because they have real scouts. We don't, that's why we're so angst on getting high picks in Cleveland. Great franchises like NE, Pittsburgh don't give a shit how high they're up, but how many they have, because more times than not they just rely on their scouting department.

Until we're able to do the same, we'll always stink. You can't just expect to hit in the top rounds, that's why there are 7 in football. It's not like picking apples from a tree, but if you dig deep enough you can find some solid football players, and every now and then you might find a hidden gem like an ala Tom Brady, or Russell Wilson. Heck, Sherman of Seattle I believe was a 5th rounder. Lot of star players in the NFL that are late round picks, some not even drafted.

This QB class has turned disappointing in one fell swoop.

Even Bridgewater hasn't shown the continued progression you hope for as the season has progressed.

The '15 class though? Sweet mother...Mariota, Hundley, Bortles with another year of experience has me fully torqued.

Looking at a veteran substitute this offseason would be a pretty good option, IMO.

Edit: Just realized we're talking about this in the Gordon thread. How did that happen?

You forgot to include Winston in that class as well. (As long as he's not convicted of his alleged rape case)

If Gordon doesn't make the pro-bowl, it would be an indictment of how bad the pro-bowl is rather than an indictment of the fans. That's a fact.

If he doesn't make it, I blame it on the NFL for letting fans vote for the pro bowl so early. Just wait til there is 2 weeks left in the season to begin voting so the people who did better early in the season don't get an advantage on those players with slower starts.

"He's a great player. He can attack all three levels of the defense. He can run through them, he can take the short plays, catch-and-run plays, crossing patterns, look patterns, plays like that, quick three-step drops and break tackles. He's very good on the intermediate routes, the in-cuts, the crossing routes, comebacks, stop-routes, things like that that attack the middle levels of the defense. He's a complete player that can run fast, catch, big target and make a lot of yards on his own after the catch with his speed, size and running ability."

-Bill Belichick

"That's why I don't pay any attention to the all the people that come in here for one or two days in August and they complained the guy doesn't work hard, he doesn't run routes, he doesn't finish. He had already caught nine balls for 150 yards. I didn't see him not run a route full speed, and he goes 95 yards and pulls away from some pretty fast guys. So all this August talk is just talk. He's a young player that's maturing and getting a lot better and I think he can really get a lot better. We just need to keep working the way we've been working and he's been working."

Bear in mind that this philosophy totally dicks Cameron.

I think we should drop the Flash Gordon nickname and go with Optimus Prime instead. He can fight Megatron for best WR in the NFL.

How so? Cameron's stats may have slumped in the second half of the season but he has still done good enough overall to get a vote late in the season. Moving the start date for voting towards the end of the season lets you evaluate the each players whole season instead of making your mind up after week 8 or so.

Nah, man. Can't force it. He pumps two "nicknames" 1) Flash and; 2) Gatsby.

It'd be awesome for the Optimus Prime name to catch, but I don't think it can be forced.

Demaryius Thomas is Optimus Prime already.

Demaryus Thomas is not better than Gordon
