Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thomas is damn good. The guy is impossible to handle vertically, in the flat, just about anywhere within the line of scrimmage. He's very similar to Gordon, except IMO a bit more polished. Raw talent if Gordon is better, its not by much. Thomas much like Gordon is too big, physical, and fast to handle one-on-one for opposing defenses. I've seen him run over a lot of defenses. It's definitely debatable which one is better. I think Thomas is a slightly better route runner than Gordon at the moment.

Heckert and company deserve major props for getting this kid to Cleveland. Here's to him staying out of trouble and enjoying a long illustrious career in Cleveland as a superstar wide receiver

Literally one of like .... a couple good moves they made.

Gordon almost makes up for the Weeden-Richardson apocalypse.....almost.

-Gordon now has the NFL record for most receiving yards over a 4 game span.

-He has 7 games of 125+ yards receiving, T2nd most all-time for a player in his first (2) NFL seasons.

-All 7 of those games have come in 1 season. He is T3rd in NFL history in # of games of 125+ yards receiving in a single season.

-The NFL single season record for receiving yards/game is 129.0 by Wes Chandler, who only played 8 games in 1982. Josh Gordon is averaging 127.3/gm at the moment.

-He has (6) games this season with 5+ catches, 125+ yards, & a TD. That's tied for the NFL record in a single season.

Going to keep digging.

I'd argue that the majority of our defense is a product of Heckert's drafting.

As for the offense, I can't form much of an argument.

Oh come on now let's not exaggerate. They made their share of bungled picks but they also made some good moves. Most people thought Trent would be a stud at the next level, the main argument was about whether or not it was smart to take a RB that high. Hardly anyone disliked the pick because of the actual talent. Weeden was a flat out mistake. I was a big supporter of his going into the draft but even I didn't want him in the first.

Let's not forget guys like Taylor, Sheard, Gordon, Cameron, Winn, Hughes, Skrine etc. They hit on plenty of picks and this defense wouldn't be remotely as strong as it is without those guys focusing their efforts on that side of the ball.

They made a lot of mistakes, not disputing that at all. However it's completely inaccurate and unfair to say that Gordon is one of only a couple of good moves.

And Weeden isn't even on Heckert. Weeden is 100% on Mike Holmgren. So his only mistake pick was Trent, and EVERYONE thought Trent would be a stud.

In before godfather sees this.

To be fair, Bob2The2nd and I both had concerns about Trent as well.

I kind of sold myself on the pick after it was pretty clear he was our guy, but before that I wasn't really a fan. The guy I wanted really hasn't done anything either though so it doesn't make much difference.

Nope there were a few of us that knew better.

Certainly debatable.

Both are excellent.

Thomas has Peyton freaking Manning throwing to him and has decent wr's around him.

Gordon has went through 3 QB's and still been dominate with them all. One being Weeden.

You are the same guy that claimed Braylon Edwards was a good wr, forgive me for never accepting your opinion on a wr ever.

We don't know that weeden is all on the holms. I do know that Schwartz looks like a giant bust as well. He did draft Jordan Cameron though.

And yeah I along with a few others didn't want Trent.

Honestly at this point I think Gordon might just be the second best receiver in football. Maybe I'm a homer, but on a team with a turnstile at QB, zero running game, and no other real offensive talent outside of Cameron, he still manages to break NFL records.

This was the test game for him in my eyes. You had an elite defensive team (against the pass anyway) and one of the best corners in football and they still couldn't stop him. This team shut down Jimmy Graham but Gordon still got his numbers. I mean, over 100 yards with a TD is a relatively down game for the guy. That's ridiculous.

Maybe his numbers drop with additional talent on offense, but it's insane to me that he continues to produce without any continuity at QB. Timing is one of the most important aspects of being a receiver and he hasn't had the time or reps to establish it with any of the QBs who have started this season.

I really want to know what he looks like with a consistent QB and at least a serviceable running game.
