Cleveland Browns New Head Coach Search, 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What can you do in a year as a coach when you don't that good of a team? This isn't KC and your not hiring Andy Reid. You need more than a year to turn around such a shitty franchise as the Browns have been.

YOU. DON'T. KNOW. THIS.

You can guess, you can plead about it. You do not know who the next great coach will be. You just don't. Andy Reid was Rob Chudzinski, Dan Quinn, Adam Gase, Gus Bradley, Mike Tomlin before he was freaking Andy Reid.

A guy sells himself to an organization because he wants a fucking dream job. Just like any other candidate in the professional world. Regardless of your personal view of the team based upon career journalists' opinions.

What I'm saying by saying your not hiring Andy Reid is, whoever they hire isn't turning this around in a year. That's all. I understand about finding someone new who could be great. Sorry for the confusion.

I get a fucking dream job, why are the Browns a dream job? Explain this to me and I'll change my tune. You think it's a dream job because you would have a slobber party with Banner to get the job. But step back for a minute and tell me how it's a dream job.

My personal view on the Browns are not just from media people. Jesus Christ. Tell me how you know so much about the Browns and why you view them. Your going to tell me that the media has no say what so ever ? All you have to do is watch the Browns for any amount of time you can see how shitty they are ran. Don't need the media for that. Unless now watching the. Personally is the media just to slam my opinion.

I don't think it is a huge accident that more offensive minded guys have decided against coming here in McDaniels and Gase given our weakness at many of the key positions on offense namely QB and RB. You can even throw in WR because we are a Gordon screw up from having basically nothing there too.

Furthermore, both of those guys also probably feel like they might be able to take over the Patriots and Broncos respectively in the next few years given the age of Fox and Manning and Belichick and Brady. Is it alarming we couldn't convince them? Yes. But if you were an offensive mind, you'd have trouble agreeing to come here too.

So it makes sense that defensive guys like Pettine and Quinn might actually have more interest in this team given the strength our our front 7 and Haden and Ward. There are pieces here to work with, who are firmly entrenched here due to their contracts.

It is all about perspective.

An analogy:

Gase and McDaniels like blondes. The Browns are a brunette and we aren't hot enough to justify not waiting for a blonde. But to Pettine and Quinn, who like brunettes, we look pretty good. And now I'll do this:
:hide:

THE. QUARTERBACK. IS. THE. MAIN. PIECE. NOT. THE. COACH.

Does anyone SERIOUSLY think Andy Reid would've done as well this year without Alex Smith? They were 2-14 the year before. He did NOT have an amazing year, but he had a good enough year to help make the team competent. Cassel had VERY similar numbers alongside a good Charles in 2010. They made the playoffs. Charles had great numbers in 2012, but they had bad quarterbacks. The result? You already know it from above.

I also do NOT wanna hear about Jamaal Charles, or Tamba, etc. Yes, they are excellent, but the Chiefs, with those players, were below #20 in offense AND defense in 2012. The Browns were #18 offense and Top 10 defense this year. The turnaround would, actually, be less of an achievement as Reid's was in Kansas City this year.

On top of that... Andy Reid did not come in riding on some lavish steed with gold chains around his neck. He took a very talented team in 2011 and they were mediocre. He then took a pretty decent team in 2012 and they were AWFUL. So people saying "WELL (insert name) IS NO ANDY REID!" should just, kindly, shut up.

This team has a ton of talent and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. Do they have Jamaal Charles? No. They have talented offensive players and a pretty solid defense. Finding a competent running back in the NFL does not take millions of dollars or very good draft picks. They just need to find the right guy. You saw it this year with a Rashad Jennings or a Zac Stacy. If that running back comes in and rushes for over 1,000 yards? Cool. If the QB still sucks? They'll still suck.

I am worried about these things in order...

1) getting a good QB
2) keeping TJ Ward
3) finding a competent running back
4) finding a head coach.

If the top 3 (or hell, #1 and #3) work out? Then who #4 is, more than likely, won't matter as much as people are making it seem.

You make some valid points, but, honestly, I have no idea what you're saying 50% of the time.

You make some valid points, but, for the most part, I have no idea what you're saying 50% of the time.

Andy Reid is the one who pushed the trade for Alex Smith. Seems to me he knows what he is doing. So whoever says he doesn't should please kindly shut up.

Guys to keep in mind for a potential Pettine staff:

OC:
Matt Cavanugh, CHI QB coach*
Jim Fassel, LV UFL HC

DC:
Donnie Henderson, BUF DB coach*
Clarence Brooks, BAL DL coach
Jeff Fitzgerald, IND LB coach

Other staffers:
Mike Devlin, OL/TE/AHC? (current OL coach in NY)
Anthony Weaver, DL coach/AHC? (current DL coach in BUF)
Jason Rebrovich, DL coach (current DQC coach in BUF)
Chuck Driesbach, LB coach
Mike Singletary, LB coach
Mike Smith, OLB coach
Samson Brown, DB coach (asst DB coach in BUF)
Brian Smith, DB coach (asst DB coach in NY)

The guys with the * is who I would put my money on being the coordinators based on previous ties... I'm not all that inspired by Matt Cavanaugh...

This whole situation is just yawn worthy to me. No longer give any fucks who "coaches" the Browns. We need a Quarterback if we're going to ever accomplish anything.

1) I want you to find where I said that... thanks.
2) Alex Smith was going to be traded. It did not take a brain to know this, or to see he was a competent QB. So he is not some sort of genius for wanting this.
3) Since you're going to be an ass and misquote me... Your spelling and grammar skills blow.

Jim O'Neill will probably be the DC if Pettine gets it...spent last 5 years under Pettine and is Buffalo's LB coach. Anthony Weaver is the other guy who could be coming with Pettine

If they're hiring a defensive head coach, my guess is the FO will hire the OC-- I'm pretty sure that'd be Kyle Shanahan.

Didmt Shanahan OC the Jets a few years ago. If its who I'm thinking of, God help us.
