1 thing that still doesnt add up. If Dion is so good why was Grant fired?

It's been said before, but think of Frank Reynolds the poster as Frank Reynolds the character. If you do that, it all makes sense. He's incredibly consistent in-character.

I pretend Oasis is Charlie Kelly and threads make more sense.

They're still here, just waiting for his next bad game.

You got that right!! He had a great game! 26 pts, 3 asst HIs ts% 78% and EF% 77% HIt all his 3's and fg%67% But Ut Oh he didn't get any rebounds, I surprised people didn't roast him for that!

Because of everything else that went wrong?

Nonetheless he was fired due to circumstances out of his control. It was good in that it woke up the young guys who he personally drafted and it made them think of the repercussions of their actions.

He was a fall man. Nothing more, nothing less. Griffin has literally zero to do with this resurgence. You can take that to the bank.

Dion is simply playing great basketball. So proud of this dude and I'm sure Grant is somewhere smiling. I would re-hire him in a heartbeat.

That's not really true. The trade for Hawes has made a huge difference in the way the team is playing. His passing ability and range open things up for Dion and the other guards a lot. We are just moving the ball a lot better and it seems like there is so much more room for the guards to move, both on and off the ball. You can say that the Bynum experiment was not Grant's fault and that screwed up the team a lot, but Griffin has had a part in getting them playing better.

Then you have multiple insiders who say Grant actually catalyzed that trade given they weren't able to pull off other trades. Hawes was on the radar before Griffin. Griffin wasn't responsible for that idea.

I'm eating a double crow hoagie. I'd still take Drummond, just because players that big shouldn't be so naturally athletic.

That being said, the way Dion's been playing and his laid back demeanor is showing me a side of D that I didn't think we'd get to see in Cleveland. I thought he'd be exiled out of town before he figured it all out. Not that he's figured it all out, but he's definitely growing before our eyes.

His alone time was all he needed IMO. And plus we know he's always been dying to be a starter, that's important to him.

I'm surprised Kyrie is being so accepting as well. I walked out of my friends house the day we drafted Dion Waiters. I always knew he had talent, but he was emotionally fragile, the low man on the totem compared to Ky, and he was always bitching his way off the court.

This is the new Dion, and I'm excited about what we have here. The jumper is absolutely key, because he'll always be able to burn people off the dribble.

The only two things Dion needs to do in order for me to love Dion the player:

1. Stay consistent with the jumper, don't force bad shots, there's plenty of good shots to take.

2. Find a way to finish at the basket, then we'd be unstoppable. Both Dion and Ky can shoot the rock, both can get to the rim at will, Kyrie is a deft finisher, Dion is still a work in progress.

How great/funny would it be if we rehire him this offseason

or ferry

What was great about his game last night is that his points didn't seem forced. He scored 26 on 15 shots, and they were spread out. Games where Dion gets hot for 1 Q are fun to watch, but if he can consistently get 4-5 pts a qtr, he is suddenly averaging 16-20 pts a game. When he takes less shots, and does things in the flow of the offense, the baskets seem easier for him. If he consistently attacks, he will have no problem keeping this scoring rate up.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because I once thought Dion's shot was shot. Come to find out, he has one helluva smooth stroke and his arc is one of the highest in the league. He is splashing shots right now that I didn't think he was previously capable of. I expected his slashing ability to carry him but it's been the opposite. He can absolutely improve on his finishing and I fully expect him to due to the way he shoots. I'm of the belief that if you can hit those fade-a-way jumpers then you can finish at the rim. Right now, he's too busy yelling AYE rather than focusing on the rim.

He's not yelling AYE when hitting those beautiful (and they are beautiful) mid rangers because he's not looking to get fouled like Nelson. He's into it and he hits them with consistency because of focus. When I hear him yell AYE I know he's got other things on his mind. He needs to forget about that shit and worry about becoming the next elite finisher which I believe he's capable of. He needs to drop the act and realize he has the first step and the athleticism to finish strong. This is the next step for him and if he concentrates on that in the off season there's no telling what he can accomplish. He's been finishing better lately. I expect him to improve by next year. Look the fuck out.

We had hit rock bottom, we were giving no effort at all, we embarrassed ourselves on the national stage against the Knicks and Lakers. Something had to be done to grab the attention of the players. Grant was not going to fire Brown, Gilbert wasn't going to fire Grant AND Brown at the same time, Gilbert wasn't going to fire himself...so he fired Grant.

The message was delivered and received - the guy that drafted, signed and believed in most of these guys was gone. If they wanted to play, get paid and had any self-respect it was time to start showing effort, do what was asked of them and play as a unit. For some of the players it hit them hard that Grant had been fired, most of the guys liked Chris a lot and knew his kids...they felt responsible for him being gone. It was a real wake-up call and the moment when things clicked. If it wasn't for some subsequent injuries we'd be a lock for the playoffs and a scary match-up for someone.

Would you hire him back?

As kind of a side note to this, Dion seems to suffer from getting too deep on drives and being too predictable.

If he had a little more variety finishing, I think he'd not only convert more shots around the basket but also draw more fouls.

If he had a quick pull up around 5-6 feet or a floater, he'd introduce enough variety to make defenders guess. That gets them out of position more often and makes fouls far more obvious.

Right now, his strategy is just to bowl inside with a head of steam and try to finish right at the rim every time. That's far too predictable for good interior defenders, which the NBA has plenty of.

This is the move Dion needs to add in the off-season.

If he does that, with his improved shooting, he'd be unstoppable offensively.
