i dont know how to be obnoxious about it. I Looked up to dictionary, it means disgusting. I Still did't understandYes, you are a bandwagoner. But as long as you're not obnoxious about it we won't hold that against you.
Not so much "how you became" as "did you stick with it". People who became a fan because of Shawn Kemp and are still fans lived through the Lucas/Wittman era, as well as the Alonzo Gee era. They obviously aren't bandwagoners.I've seen in this same thread people be ridiculed for being fans of a specific player, but I've also seen people be welcomed for following David Blatt. I thought it didn't matter how you started becoming a fan?
But the point is, would you have called them a bandwagoner when Kemp joined the team? The ones that admittedly only rooted for the Cavs because of LeBron the first time around and are back now are bandwagoners, but give people a chance and see what they have to offer as posters before ridiculing them for being honest. Who knows, they could become diehard Cavs fans down the road. You just never know. Not so much "how you became" as "did you stick with it". OK, how about everybody that posted on here they were Jordan fans, then came to be a Cavs fan because of LeBron? Clearly bandwagon fans yes? Yet they became diehard Cavs fans over time. As I said, people's reasons for rooting for a team change over time. Let time run it's course before you ridicule somebody for being a bandwagon fan. Hell just by posting on this forum for years could make somebody more invested in a team then they might otherwise have been. The people who rooted for Kemp had a chance to leave and didn't. The people who rooted for LeBron and had a chance to leave did. That's the essential difference.
This board isn't like ESPN.com boards or other "large" that will only ban people if they say something extremely offensive. This is an independent site with its own unique culture. Plenty of people who were clearly Cavs fans got ridiculed or banned for repeatedly low quality posts. There is a post in the "Announcements" section that outlines quality posting and etiquette.
And just from a common sense standpoint, the Decision and the subsequent 4 years will always be a source of soreness for the city and the fans. Saying, "Yeah, I enjoyed those 4 years that you guys saw as an abomination" is not a great way to ingratiate yourself.
My point is, people need a reason to start rooting for a team. Whether it's a favorite coach, player, playing style, etc., it should not matter if they decided to join this board. As long as they have quality posts, people on this board are much more invested in a team than casual bandwagon fans.If you can't tell the difference between a fan following a coach that is joining the NBA for the first time, and a fan following a player that's been in the league eleven years, I don't know what to tell you. One has prior NBA allegiances, the other does not.
Again, it's really not a big deal as long as these posters don't put their love of one player over the love of the team.
Well if they became diehard fans over time, they didn't leave the Cavs when LeBron left.Which means they aren't bandwagon Cavs fans.OK, how about everybody that posted on here they were Jordan fans, then came to be a Cavs fan because of LeBron? Bulls fans wouldn't see it that way no? You wouldn't have saw it that way when they first started being a fan would you? That's the same situation here right now. Give them time and then you'll see who stayed and who didn't.Well if they became diehard fans over time, they didn't leave the Cavs when LeBron left.Which means they aren't bandwagon Cavs fans.
Well they might be bandwagon Bulls fans. I think bandwagoning is a copout, but I don't really have the energy to go over to Real Bulls Fans and call them bandwagoners.Bulls fans wouldn't see it that way no? That's my point though. They were once bandwagon fans, but over time figured out how to be a team fan. A person that joins a board called "RealCavsFans" and has quality posts has much more of a chance to stick around then a casual fan correct? Instead of berating a fan for being a past bandwagon fan, judge them by their posts now.Well they might be bandwagon Bulls fans. I understand your point, as you have stated it multiple times. You have to understand that those who followed LeBron to Miami will always struggle to gain acceptance here. That's my point though. All I'm saying is who cares how they rooted in the past? Judge them by what they are doing now. Jordan fans figured out how to root for a team, so why can't LeBron fans?
