How did you became a Cavs fan? For those who are not from Cleveland.

I understand your point, as you have stated it multiple times. You have to understand that those who followed LeBron to Miami will always struggle to gain acceptance here.

If they prove to be good posters, they will be fine. But we have strict standards here. They very easily could be berated because their posting standards are not RCF quality.
I totally understand that. The only thing I have an issue is when someone posts that they have been a LeBron fan on this thread and people automatically say "I am so glad for this thread so I know who to ignore." It's those types of remarks that frustrate me. You don't have to like them, but don't write off what they have to say because of their past rooting interests. Write them off if they suck at posting. Simple.

My point is, people need a reason to start rooting for a team. Whether it's a favorite coach, player, playing style, etc., it should not matter if they decided to join this board. As long as they have quality posts, people on this board are much more invested in a team than casual bandwagon fans.

Like being from Ohio? That is how this whole fan thing started, the teams represent the geographic region. If you aren't repping Cleveland I don't see any reason to give a shit that you like the Cavs all of a sudden.

But hey, as long as you aren't posting garbage, who cares? I don't think anybody is being too harmful in their anti-bandwagon speak. If you're in it for the long haul, no worries. If you're not, maybe keep that to yourself. I kind of like the idea of the Cavs becoming a bandwagon. Sure, we might have to deal with our team being represented by douches who are just in it to front-run, but this means you could go anywhere and see Cavs gear. We'd become conquerers in the basketball world, taking up territory in NBA landscape.

As it is, I can go to a city like New York and know I'm seeing a Clevelander whenever I see Cleveland gear (which is cool in its own right but whatever).

See my above post about what bothers me about the anti-bandwagon speak.

As for Ohio, yes that's the main reason for fandom, but can you really blame someone from Dayton, Columbus, Cincy, etc that have never been to Cleveland to not have an allegiance to the city or it's teams? After all, it is the Cleveland Cavaliers, not the Ohio Cavaliers. The Pacers are just as close to Columbus as Cleveland is for example.

If you really understand it, then those statements shouldn't be so frustrating. Some people just won't accept that type of fan. And frankly, since they are ignoring them, that is probably for the best.

So you guys saying a fan should cheer the team that's closest to his living area or his city's team?
Wonder what will people in Europe do as an NBA fan?

Nope, but that isn't what I said. Obviously, I like the idea that you would choose a team that represents your city or state. But beyond that, just pick a city or team to support for life or to me it feels like bandwagonery or frontrunnership. You can always root for an individual beyond that team, but you can't be a "real" fan of a team if you don't stick with them through thick and thin.

If this upcoming team creates Cavs fans for life (it will make at least a few in and out of Ohio), that's great. But for now, don't blame us for being weary of those that jump onto the wagon as soon as all of our wildest fucking fantasies come true.

I never watched basketball until I was in high school. Then my brother in law introduced me to NBA 2k6 and I have been addicted to the cavaliers ever since. I refresh twitter several times and hour in hopes of a cavs article. I have watched through the good and bad. My favorite cavalier memory is Varejao's 3 pointer to win the game over the hawks in 09 me, my brother, and brother in law were in the stands after our usual routine of Ohio City Cigars, the winking lizard, then head to the game (when we get to go.) Awesome memories.

Player fan since I started watching bball in 1991. Been a Bron fan since his sophomore year in HS.

I see basketball players as the product of the sport, not employees. The products make the business.

Some of you pick a team and you like them for life. I pick a player and I like them for life. How is that any different?

When LeBron is 77 years old and no longer playing basketball, i'd still be a fan of his.

By the way I'm originally from the Columbus area. Now I'm in southern Indiana surrounded by Hoosiers and wildcats... But luckily no one in Indiana cares about the pacers even here.

It's different because this is still a team sport.
If you start caring about the success of the player over success of the team, we're no longer rooting for the same thing.

I'm another fan from Turkey.
I've been a Cavs fan since i was a child who watched Mark Price. He was my favorite player.
I hate the bandwagon stuff. It's like a bitch who changes her husband for every 3-4 years. I don't hold grudge against them if they be a Cavs fan for the rest of their life though

The difference is that you're on RealCavsFans.com. There is nothing wrong with supporting players. I don't even hold it against you if you rooted for LeBron in Miami (well, I did back then but that's just bitterness). But this is a team sport. The main goal is the championship. The pinnacle is not the MVP award, as great an achievement as that is.

If you're here for LeBron and not for the Cavs long haul, then you aren't really rooting for the Cavs at all, the fact that the Cavs are your team has become completely arbitrary based on where he happens to play.

Do whatever you want, it doesn't actually matter. I'll just reiterate the fact that Cavs fans don't have to love the people climbing aboard our ship now that everything we have dreamed of is coming true. Honestly, it kind of feels like you haven't earned the ability to call this "your" team. Again, doesn't really matter because it doesn't change our love for our team or our enjoyment of its future success.

I suppose vice versa a LeBron fan doesn't have to love the fact that Cleveland turned around and started loving him again.

Got drafted by the Cavs in NBA2k14, have been a Cavs since then!! GOGO CAVS

I get what you're saying, but the difference is that LeBron fans never claim to be Cavs fans. LeBron fans were LeBron fans when he was at St. Vincent St. Mary, when he was in Cleveland, when he was in Miami, when he's back in Cleveland, when he becomes an owner one day, when he's in his grave. We were loyal fans when Cleveland burned his jersey. We were fans of his when he didn't have a jumpshot, when he didn't have post-up moves, when the world hated him, when the world loves him. We claim to be loyal LeBron fans, even when he's 38yo and becomes the 100th ranked player in the NBA.

It just so happens that Cavs fans and LeBron fans share a common goal: That is...for LeBron and the Cavs to get a championship. Cavs fans want a championship for Dan Gilbert and his organization. LeBron fans want the team to get a championship because that's a part of his legacy. I'm not from Cleveland, I can't lie about having love for the city. I'm from NYC, I just could never get myself to like the Knicks organization, and the process of not having a team to root for forced me to become a player fan over 20 years ago.

We share a common goal and have the same enemies, and that's pretty much it. We never claimed to be Heat fans or Cavs fans. See it as us being allies, but we aren't in the same kingdom.

Is there a way to give negative rep on this site?
