Will the Cavs get caught in the Ferry undertow?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am confused on what Ferry should have said otherwise. Here's the quote again, in which he was repeating someone else's quote

"He's still a young guy overall," Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo. “He's a good guy overall. But he's not perfect. He's got some African in him. And I don't say that in a bad way."

Explain how to say that, particularly the "African in him" part, in another way. What is that even supposed to imply? What does that mean? I am so confused on this one. He was born in Africa and it appears he didn't move to England until he was a young teenager.

What does that mean, like even as a racist comment? It was even followed with "and I don't say that in a bad way." Also, it's such a dumb comment that I can't figure out why Ferry included it. It makes 0.00 sense.

As far as the owner and the notes, there's really nothing to discuss. I think the dude wanted out for more than just this email, and this is the media story that fits best.

wonder if Dany ever read a scouting report about andy saying he had some brazillian in him
Than he's a horrible person, by today's extremist liberal standards.

perhaps all the reporters reciting what danny ferry recited should be sanctioned too.. its just... wrong

Good point I saw on Twitter... May not have been Ferry's words, but however he said it or read it apparently gave the impression to more than one person on that to call that he meant it and/or agreed with it.

Well now I'm curious why people in the league seem to think Deng might be a liar and a cheat? Gotta be a story there.

The only thing I could think of is everyone saying what a great leader/ locker room guy he is, but then within a few weeks of being here was talking to the media about what a train wreck we were.

It's still a thoroughly bizarre comment about a player in a scouting report, and whether ferry is a racist or not, I doubt that he was handed that report five minutes before he walked into the meeting so he, as the head of basketball operations, is responsible for what was written.

Some of this is still developing but its sounds like now, the whole "scouting report being read by Ferry" was damage control and it was Ferry's own words on a conference call with the double digit ownership group of the Hawks. Even if there was chatter from some people in the league that runs counter to Dengs reputation, there would be so many more appropriate ways to say that you think someone may be "fake", "disengenuous" etc. To bring in racial stereotypes rather than just make the assertion about the man/individual is unnecessary, demeaning, revealing, and just plain stupid of Ferry.

The letter Atlanta based minority owner Gearon wrote(linked a few posts up by Damage) succinctly sums up why it's not only an inappropriate thing for Ferry to say, but why, as comments made during the course of the organization conducting business vs Sterlings private comments, it would be massively harmful to the Hawks as an organization both in the court of of public opinion but also potentially legally(especially now when paired up with Levensons earlier e-mail about the fanbase.

sorry dear USA friends... but this racism in every thing is ridiculous. We are definitely marked by our origin and other birt given advantages/disadvantages... the depths of your witch hount are ridiculous.

No one was on a witch hunt for Danny Ferry or the Hawks majority owner. They put themselves in this position through their words and letters in a corporate, business setting. Danny Ferry has made millions and millions of dollars as a player and executive. Though his future in the NBA may be uncertain, he will no doubt have many future opportunities to earn money, continue to build wealth, and live his life. There is really no excuse for what he said though in 2014, especially in that these were not even private, personal comments but comments and thoughts he made/presented in tandem with the letter from 2012 by Levenson.

Instead of trying to reduce this down to generalities and saying we need to move on from things like this, you should either choose to ignore it as something you do not identify/agree with or look deeper into the specifics of the situation to better understand why many people are concerned or upset about it.

Also I'm unclear by what you mean when you say "We are definitely marked by our origin and other birth given advantages/disadvantages......." and if you're saying that in reaction to specifically what was said or repeated by Ferry about Deng?

If those really are Ferry's own words he really needs to be terminated. That is awful and if it was spin saying that it was some unidentified scout that is awful too.
