Gordon suspension reduced to 10, 12 if convicted of DWI

So the Browns really got fucked hard here by the league. If the new policies are supposed to be retroactive, then Gordon passed his drug test. If they aren't retroactive then suspend him for the year. If they are retroactive for everyone but Gordon, then just come out and admit it that you are intentionally screwing the Browns for whatever reason.

The reasoning the NFL is using is this...

The NFL is amending the substance abuse policy for the 2014 NFL year which began in March. Gordon failed his drug test prior to March and therefore is not subject to the change. Since the penalty was not delivered until August the NFL will follow the new guidelines for the penalty which for a 4th offense you get a 10 game suspension.

This is the NFL's version of compromise.

Just shitty that we lose our star receiver for ten games on a fucking technicality. Meanwhile, guys that beat their girlfriends, wives, and kids are activated. Well, as long as there's not a video, of course.

Football is great. But this league is a joke. Woman and child beaters need the benefit of the doubt. But don't dare smoke some dope because you will get tested 10 times a month.

And don't even get me started on what is and isn't a catch anymore.

Plus, so much time for the grind of the NFL season to wear down teams (including us, knock on wood).

Don't want to get off topic (Gordon) but for the fans a 4th week (bye) is awesome, get it out of the way. Bad for the team though. Especially if we come off a win against Baltimore, we are riding hot. Then we have to take a week off. The only good thing is we come out of the break with 5 winnable games (only one I see a problem with is Steelers just b/c it's them, and maybe Titans, who have a pretty damn good pass defense, god hope Cameron is back by then (should be back this week))

Could spew off that more but want to stay on topic, GO GORDON!

Best part is Rodger is probably getting high right now.

So do I have this right?: He will be suspended a total of 10 games and his free agency will therefor come in 2015 instead of 2016? Is that a fact?

This shit still stinks, IMO. But, whatever, let's move on. He comes back in November.

Sooo..... Do the Browns lose a year of control for the 10 gamer? That'd be terrible luck to get him back for 6 games, but lose a year of control over 2 games.

The problem is if they tossed out Gordon's 2013 league year test, then they'd be risking a fair representation claim from every player who fell into that 15-35 ng hole in past years. There was an article last week that some teams were going to go back as far as 2011 to get those reconsidered if that happened, because players have been moved into the program, and up the various stages, based on positive results in past years. They needed to limit it to 2014 league year positive tests to have a bright line, defensible basis for excluding some results and not others.

Hasn't been officially announced whether he'll be suspended an additional 2 games for the DWI.

If he gets an additional 2 games, it will not count as a year & he'll be a FA after '16.

if he gets no additional games for the DWI and only gets the 10 gamer, it will count as a year & he'll be a FA after '15.

Yes. The worst part is if he was suspended for just an additional 2 games more (for the DUI or whatever) we would have him under contract through 2016 instead of 2015.

That's what I was asking. So, this is for sure?
