Keith Bogans to Cavs, Now Traded to Philly

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There are people that have more cap knowledge than me, but how feasible is it to really sustain another 10-15 mil contract to add for next season?

If the NBA signs that new TV deal, will it help us much? Because LeBron will be asking for the new max (even though it'd be nice if he took a "discount"). Kevin Love will probably have the max we have now unless he signs a contract like LeBron. But we would actually have Kyrie on a decent contract considering he is locked up long term under the old cap numbers.

My concern is that it will be hard to add another 10+ mil contract next off season because Dion and Tristan will be making bank as well. Varejao coming down a few mil should help. Dion will probably be on a pretty fair deal, but I'm afraid LeBron is going to play Tristan into a contract that is worth WAY more than he actually is.

Moral of the story/TL;DR: I hope we get rid of Tristan if he asks for too much (which is highly likely).

From Bulls board:

They mad :chuckle:

They are just in denial that there is a very good chance Memphis ends up winning 45-48 games but still misses the playoffs and sends to our disposal the 13th or 14th pick in next years draft. Nor do they seem fully versed in what Haywoods contract becomes as soon as this years Finals(which they will be watching from home) are over.

Ironically, Kobe is one of the nine players signed past this year we can't get for just Haywood + Bogans (+125% assuming we are above the tax next year)

The list: Kobe, Dwight, Melo, CP3, Durant, Rose, Bosh, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson.

EVERY other contract is fair game. We have a lot of flexibility.

The current CBA is in place for the next 3 seasons. Until that changes after the 2016-2017 season, the only limit to how much we can spend and how much we can choose to spend on our own players or contract for contract trades is Dan Gilbert. If Dan Gilbert want to go Full Prokhorov, he can go Full Prokhorov. And unlike the Nets big contracts(Williams, Johnson, Lopez), we have a team worth going Full Prokhorov on.

How much tax do you want to pay?

Theoretically, we can re-sign LBJ/Love/Andy to the max, add $19m ish for Haywood+Bogans (for anyone that is NOT a 2015 free agent), $3.5m for the mini-MLE, sign TT and Dion to max extensions, sign our draft picks (including MEM if it vests) and fill up the rest of the roster with vet mins, all while being cap legal.

However, our tax bill would be enormous.

What do you think is the most likely scenario?

A) Trade Bogans for someone like Mozgov or Biyombo during the season (if they become available).
B) Wait and package Bogans and Haywood and picks to acquire another star center a la Sanders/Gasol/Hibbert via sign & trade
or C) Sign Okafor during the season and if he plays solid to great basketball, stick with him and try to fill other needs (perimeter defense for example).

See, I knew it was possible because the Nets and Knicks have had teams full of players with monstrosity contracts, but they have payrolls way higher because they are in bigger markets (I assume). We know Gilbert will spend, but not to the point where he is losing a ton of money. My point is that people are acting like this 16 mil (from Haywood and Bogans) could basically add another max contract to the team. But that must not be realistic because there is no other team in the league with 4 max contracts. Miami could barely manage their three (it still broke apart). Add on Dion and Tristan's contracts and it has to be impossible.

I'll take B & C and look forward to powning Chiraq then bully SA :)

Can someone clarify whether or not Gasol is a technical possibility? Seeing a lot of conflicting stories about whether a S&T is possible next year. I understand that it will be difficult given our main asset is a contract, but is it just possible?

The Nets are paying $70million this year for Johnson, Williams, Lopez, and Garnett
Last season they paid all 4 of those guys PLUS Paul Pierce at $15 million

So I'm not saying what Gilbert can, should, or will do, but there's nothing to stop him for at least the next three year. He could trade Bogans and Haywood + the Memphis pick for a 16 million per year salary, pay Tristan at 10 per year starting in 2015-2016 and give Dion whatever he wants starting in 2016-2017.

There are certain numbers we just don't know. How much money does this type of super team generate him for every home game? How does it affect fat head. How does it affect his casino. How do 12-16 home playoff games affect each both those factors bottom lines.

Doing a S&T(or using the Full MLE) as an over the cap team would lock us into a hard cap the luxury tax apron. It's unlikely we could do that while retaining any two of Andy, Dion, and Tristan. Plus cap hold for vet min guys or Mike Miller.

We need to focus on players under contract. S&T is just so unlikely and limits us depth wise

In the past, late second round picks could be purchased for about $500k, so it's not that hard to replace them if the team has to, but at the same time, we don't see the Spurs trade away draft picks like that. Rhetorical question: Which team has more trust in their scouts?

But which team has more pressure on them to win right now?

Also, San Antonio is also a lot further along in their run than the Cavs are.

In the past however, they have traded 1st rd picks for Stephen Jackson, Kurt Thomas, Nazr Mohammed & Jamison Brewer (2 of them here), and Steve Kerr.

From Reddit: Marc Gasol, Lamarcus Aldridge, Deandre Jordan, and Roy Hibbert's agents are all happy tonight. Another bidder for 2015.

This is the absolute dream scenario. No better fit for this team as currently constructed. Could you imagine a starting lineup of Irving, Waiters, James, Love, and Jordan? And still a bench with TT, AV, Delly, and more? We'd set the single season win total.

Honestly, we have the potential to field one of the best teams of all-time within the next couple years..

It's really hard to fathom what has happened. It seems just like yesterday day we were watching the team lose by 55 at the Lakers.
