Keith Bogans to Cavs, Now Traded to Philly

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Great, now I have to bitch about Griffin for getting slammed by Ainge againf for 9 months, and that hope that he shuts me up next summer.
I like getting Bogans's contract for this year or next year, but the Celtics are making out like bandits. :fight (2):

Disagree here.

There are only 4 contracts in the league that fit the criteria we wanted ($3.5m - $5m expiring or NG 2nd year and a worthless player) - and Boston had two of them (Anthony and Bogans).

The others belong to Detroit (Jerebko) who won't do us any favors, and J.J Barea who Kevin Love reportedly hates.

Given the options, and the fact that our 2nd round picks are basically top-55 protected (i.e. throw-ins) this is fine for me. At least we got the best contract of the 4 options, which IMO is worth the picks.

It wouldn't surprise me if we find out the Cavs approached Ainge about Bogans in July, didn't like the Celtics demands and made the Utah deal, only to realize holding 3 warm bodies until the trade deadline wasn't realistic so they caved.

cavs just sent out 3.2 in non guaranteed salary for 4 players to 5.2 unguaranteed for 1 player.with the crawford waiving that brings their roster to 14.

I think thats worth a couple second rounders

16

So we have 16 with Price the most obvious cut. So we can add a few random names or just roll with our roster.

We had 20? im not counting the summer contracts

Nothing too new, but it looks like 1 or more of the Utah guys could be gone (Boston has to release 4 players, I didn't look at their roster to see if there's other guys who will get released 1st).. Stein's story on the deal:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have swung a trade on the eve of media day.

Sources involved in the talks told ESPN.com that the Cavaliers, who will meet the media Friday and open training camp Saturday, have agreed to terms on a trade with the Boston Celtics to acquire swingman Keith Bogans.

The Cavaliers will surrender the non-guaranteed contracts of John Lucas, Erik Murphy and Malcolm Thomas -- as well as forward Dwight Powell -- to acquire Bogans, whose trade-friendly contract holds great appeal to Cleveland.

The combination of ‎Bogans' contract being non-guaranteed both this season at $5.3 million and next season at $5.5 million -- along with Brendan Haywood's fully unguaranteed $10.5 million salary in 2015-16 -- potentially gives the Cavs a combined $16,035,935 in unguaranteed salary to dangle in trades for the 2015-16 campaign, which is a significant amount of cap relief to offer trade partners.

Boston, meanwhile, gets Powell and, sources told ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, two future second-round picks in the deal, as well as the ability to immediately release any of the players with non-guaranteed contracts.

The Celtics will have 23 players on their books once this deal is approved by the league office, requiring them to release four players before completing the long-anticipated signing of free-agent swingman Evan Turner.

Information from ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst was used in this report.

We had 19? im not counting the summer contracts

Why? Everyone who signed is on the roster. They were at 20, traded 4, added 1, then will release 1 to get to 16.

There is really no limit now to the type of packages we could put together for all types of players next summer

Want straight up salary relief and a 2018 1st round for a troubled player. Cavs can meet your needs(Sanders, McGee)

Want want salary relief and a premium pick(Memphis pick) for a talented player not long for your rebuild. Cavs can meet your needs.(Horford, Brook Lopez, Hibbert)

Or we could use Bogans and Haywood plus a pick this year to get someone or some combo making up to about the 10 million per year range.

So much opportunity. We have the contracts to do it. We have the sweeteners to add. We have the owner who will pay. And we have a team that no player in the NBA would balk at joining.

It's very possible that Boston "won" this trade. It's a good deal for them. But if it helps us get better, I don't care. As long as it ends up a net positive for us, I'll take it.

Disagree here.

I edited my post while you were replying, so I think we agree at this point. I forget how little the Cavs 2nd-rounders are worth now. And I know I will have to wait for awhile to see how things turn out in the end. As MirORich outlined, the flexibility the Cavs is remarkable. Hopefully, they'll find a trade partner or two. to make it happen this year or next.

Bogans = Dynasty

He'll fall below Irving, Waiters, Miller, Delly, and probably even Joe Harris on the guard depth chart.

I'd assume he'll see garbage time minutes here and there with James Jones. He's a solid vet whose best years are behind him. Can still defend the wing pretty well. Shoots an alright three ball. Nothing special.
