The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All this talk about Hoyer struggling, and while he definitely didn't play good, he helped lead this team to a game-winning drive. Regardless of if he was the reason for it being a game-winning drive or not, he still did it.

Also, didn't see anybody mention Miles Austin dropping a big touchdown in the endzone, when Hoyer placed it perfectly between two defenders. Only to have it slip through Austin's hands on 3rd down.

While I don't believe Hoyer is our future, I do believe he has done a lot for this franchise since taking over last year. All he has done is win the majority of his games here.

Which has to mean something...Right?

Say this about Hoyer: a lot of quarterbacks wouldn't have been able to put those terrible throws behind them and go out and get the job done at the end. He leaves a lot to be desired physically, but mentally you can't ask for much more.

No need to come on here and cop out by telling everyone they're angry when they're really not.

Take your lumps like men, gentleman.

Nobody is unhappy after a win, just once again disappointed in the performance of the QB. As they should be...

I'm not a huge Hoyer guy. No lumps to take.

But there's a pretty clear lack of enjoyment of wins. It's ok for you guys. It's just not for me.

"Nothing to lose, really," Hoyer said. "Go out and play fearless. That's all I have at that point.

So that is what you have to love...

That's an interesting quote. I wonder if the Manziel contingent within the Browns is getting loud enough for Hoyer to hear it.

I think a lot of people made mistakes this game, not only Hoyer. Letting the ball slip through Austins hands is part of the game. It's certainly his fault and he needs to make that catch. Drops will always happen. You site that, but don't site that Austin got us a few catches that extended drives resulting in a first down. Sure gordon and Hawkins had a great game, but Austin did contribute and he's not Greg Little.

The coaching staff really dropped the ball in the first half with clock management and expecting Cundiff to hit a 60 yarder twice. After the first kick clearly doesn't have the distance, they try it again knowing his leg it's strong enough. We probably wouldn't have got points either way, but I rather would have seen a shot taken down field.

I wasn't too thrilled with the play calling at the end of the drive when Hoyer got picked. It's like they completely forgot how they got down there. I would have preferred if they would have let West finish off the drive.

Nope, too much emotion in game threads for me. I prefer to take the whole performance into consideration before commenting. And this was a bad one. Still deserves to start though.

EDIT: Just went back and read. Like 2-3 people calling for Manziel...and no one seriously believing it would happen.

Willing to acknowledge he was able to respond when we needed it? WTF does that even mean? We ALWAYS need it. We would have easily been up 2-3 TDs had he played an even average game.

That he lead us to a game winning drive, on the road in a hostile environment, with less than a minute in the game! That's exciting! Yay!!!!! You'd think more people would be at least excited he did that.

With Mike Pettine still screwing up the time management.

That despite a horrible, horrible game, that Hoyer is tough enough to come back with an incredible game winning drive. How the hell can the biggest Brian Hoyer hater, not at least seriously be ecstatic about that.

Some aren't willing to even acknowledge he had anything to do with the winning drive. To me, yes, those are fans that are still seriously "angry".

There's too much "see! see! I told ya!" going on. If people still think he's not good enough, and want to use this game as a reason, then go ahead.

I think there's too much football left to have a definitive decision on Hoyer one way or the other yet.

He definitely has to play better than he did today. I don't think you'll fine one person that disagrees. But hey, kudos to him for finally getting it together and helping us get a win.

I'm just glad we are in the ugly wins and not the we should of had that one camp.

The D really bailed us out today. Today was Hoyer's worst game as a Brown and I don't think that's really debatable. I'm still 100% OK starting him throughout the year as he gives us the best shot to win here and now.

Sad.

I know Hoyer's sound bites are all about, "I just focused on my own preparation, yadda yadda.." That said, he also operated as the underdog this entire time. There is no question he is very aware of the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

I think you need to hold him accountable but also look at the entire picture. Him and Gordon were not on the same page something I would expect with Gordon missing 10 games. Also let's not forget we still have no one that can replace Cameron's production from the TE position. While I agree great QB's don't need everything to be perfect to win, but no one is saying he is great. He a guy with the right tools will win you more games then you lose.

Hoyer is the subject of a lot of criticism, debate, and discussion.

I think this is normal and healthy. I'm sure the Browns front office is doing the same thing.

There is a huge decision coming at the end of the season. And you really have to make sure you are making the right one.

Just calling people angry doesn't make them angry. I was jumping around my room clapping when we hit the final kick. It has nothing to do with, "see! see! I told ya!". I hope to hell Hoyer plays awesome every game...he just doesn't do it very often.

There's a pretty big gap between identifying someone's limitations and calling out their bad play, and rooting for their failure. I'm sorry, but the "game winning drive" and "pulled himself together" nonsense doesn't do it for me. He made 4 decent throws...that's it. He didn't do anything exceptional or special. He did what a quarterback is supposed to do against soft coverage.

Since no one in their right mind would give Hoyer credit for today's win, the supporters credit him for the last drive. It's great that we won the game, but I'm not gonna pat the guy on the back for 4 average throws.
