The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I knew it was a mistake to click on this thread. I mean yeah, he was terrible today, no doubt.

But he clearly didn't contribute at all to the winning drive either....

He's the only reason we were even in that situation...

Totally disagree with most here, I think the only really poor throw Hoyer made was the interception on the underthrow, whereas he made a few really great throws. I feel like many are already forgetting what a truly bad QB looks like, which is kind of amazing considering the consistently horrible QB play we've seen for over a decade. He and Josh just didn't have any chemistry on the deep stuff today, which is to be expected and Josh for sure dogged it on the late back of the endzone INT, as he is wont to do from time to time.

Even Hoyer can admit when he was terrible, I honestly have no idea how to respond to this.

He was horrendous and it's telling that you have to resort to the shitty QBs the Browns have had over the last decade to try and make it seem like that's acceptable.

I don't disagree with that. He did almost cost us the game. To be fair, and I'm not making this an excuse. The chemistry wasn't completely there yet with Gordon, and that was expected.

But Hoyer clearly made some poor throws/decisions today.

I don't think I said it was acceptable at all. He did not play good. There's like no one that's going to say different.

If people want to continue to drive the witch hunt to get him out of town, that's fine, you can still do that.

Just admitting you're glad he was able to respond when we needed it won't kill ya though.

Not a single person has called for his job, bud. The Brian Hoyer thread is here to discuss Brian Hoyer, and this discussion today will be about how bad he was. Yes, we won. The defense played really well and we ran the ball well. We were able to overcome 3 terrible picks (one which definitely took points off the board late in the game).

Making a few open throws against soft coverage doesn't change the fact that he was flat out terrible for most of the game.

This post is a perfect example of, "Hey we won, so shut up about Hoyer." And then when we lose...it's everyone else's fault. This team would have won with nearly any QB in the league out there today. Hoyer's play made the score much closer than it needed to be.

But hey, 10-4 as a starter. Let's give him a comeback win too because he gifted the Falcons the late lead.

He played better in the Texans game, but the team failed around him. Before people jump on me for saying that, I did say he had a B first half and a C- second half last week. I'm not delusional.

I was ready to enter this thread and take my lumps after the second fourth quarter interception. The Browns around Hoyer played like they deserved to win, he had more struggles this time against a lesser defense.

But... he deserves credit for leading the team down the field with one minute left, making throws most of his detractors claimed he couldn't make, in formations that most of this critics claimed he can't operate out of... he led them down the field about as well as a quarterback can.

And that's worth something in the NFL. He's done it several times in the past two years. It deserves credit.

For the record, I hated the play call on the second INT. We were moving the ball on the ground and had first and goal from the 5 or 6 - keep running. That said, Hoyer's execution was even worse. If he was trying to throw it away, he did terribly. If he was trying to hit Gordon, he did terribly. It was like he tried to do both on the same play. You simply cannot turn the ball over in a situation like that.

The first pick was bad, but it happens. The third pick...again, don't force anything. If the play isn't there, throw it away, run some clock, punt, and rely on your defense.

He was gifted two short fields after turnovers and got 6 points out of it.

No one is trying to change the fact he was terrible for most of the game.

Some are just willing to acknowledge, hey, at least he was able to respond when we needed it.

And clearly you don't read the game thread, plenty were calling for Hoyer to be benched.

Nope, too much emotion in game threads for me. I prefer to take the whole performance into consideration before commenting. And this was a bad one. Still deserves to start though.

EDIT: Just went back and read. Like 2-3 people calling for Manziel...and no one seriously believing it would happen.

Willing to acknowledge he was able to respond when we needed it? WTF does that even mean? We ALWAYS need it. We would have easily been up 2-3 TDs had he played an even average game.

No need to come on here and cop out by telling everyone they're angry when they're really not.

Take your lumps like men, gentleman.

Nobody is unhappy after a win, just once again disappointed in the performance of the QB. As they should be...

There's a drunken hayseed on line 2 at 923 that would disagree
