Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Right now, Manziel is in the manager in training program at Enterprise Rent a Car.

Or he could be the founder and ceo of Apple Computers.

Do you know this by experience? When did you play in the NFL? Everyone learns differently, it's not an exact science.

Yes, years of experience watching young QBs develop.

Early entrants to the draft who sit on the bench often benefit greatly from it.

Yeah that Andrew Luck should still be on the bench to learn.

Boy I bet those fans in Seattle are wishing they let Russell Wilson sit longer.

If only Eagles would have sat McNab, they would have won that Super Bowl.

Has the Coaching staff really been open to starting Manziel at any point ?

As soon as He was drafted there was an immediate emphasis that he was a back up before ever setting foot into training camp.

During the preseason there was a show about Manziel having an opportunity to earning the starting job but it was made clear Manziel had to be head and shoulders above Hoyer to earn the JOb .. At that time he wasnt.

The the Manziel was introduced but never committed to. It was sheleved as soon as it became apparent the Browns had a running game and could produce on the field.

Manziel himself at some point relayed that he didnt feel he was ready to start anyways. Then during the season declared if the oppurtunity became available he was ready.

then the first time on the field after that Manziel put his money sign where his mouth is and confidently drove the Browns on a 80 yard drive. The next posseions a snap was botched and Manziel somehow turned it into a incomplete pass. then completed a pass one yard shy of a first down.

Meanwhile outside of less than a handful of drives regardless of field position Hoyer has shown limited ability to run the ball and has made mistake after mistake. Mistakes that he isnt supposed to make.

people can take a microscope and say this guy didnt do this or this guy ran the wrong route but the ball isnt moving and it is costing the Browns game.

Hoyer doesnt appear to give the Browns the best chance to win at this point. At this point starting Manziel isnt saying good bye tot he season its giving the Browns a chance to salvage the season.

poor fundamentals, bad footwork, off balance throws, bad decisions on the field. we have seen all these things from Hoyer on a consistent basis. It isnt improving and it hasnt gotten any better.

If the only objections at this point is that Manziel is unproven or he likes to party or he only shows up on time for game day practice or he needs help calling plays in the huddle. its not really an objection at all

You're the one that brought up age (which has nothing to do with the argument) in this thread.

Name for me the last successful QB to leave school after two seasons of collegiate experience and have immediate success in the NFL?

You won't find one.

Age and collegiate experience are obvious factors in how teams approach development.

Right now, Manziel's grandfather drank my milkshake. Right now, Hoyer can't believe he shat the bed in his big second chance that badly. Right now, Sammy Hagar is drunk on tequila and mumbling the lyrics to Van Halen's "Right Now".

Look, I'm just interested in developing Johnny correctly and Hoyer going out with some dignity.

I'm more interested in asking why the Browns took a QB who didn't have a traditional playbook so early in the draft.

I'm more interested in asking why Manziel was drafted over Bridgewater, who was the darling of all the analytics.

I'm more interested in asking what the plan is for a prospect like that, if there is a pattern for QB prospects like that eventually succeeding, and are the Browns brave enough to follow that plan when Hoyer has a few bad weeks.

Are you honestly comparing Manziel to either of these four year college players?

The Eagles did sit McNabb most of his first year.

You are one of those that forces someone to "sit" because they haven't "earned" anything yet fail to realize that the opportunity was given to you at some point.

No QB comes in and has immediate success. Most if not all first year starters struggle. The only ones that want to "sit" Manziel are the ones that use his age/experience against him with no other argument. He isn't ready because in your mind he hasn't "earned" it.

Yet he has never been given the opportunity to "earn" it.

Name me any other qb to leave after 2 years that was honored the heisman and the davey o'brien award while breaking mannings record and many others in their freshman year.

The Browns have sat Manziel most of his first year.

Manziel was a RS Sophmore. A college Junior he had 3 years in a college football program.

Also there have been several 1 year starters in college that have had some success in the NFL. Tannehill started a very similar number of games at QB to Manziel. Tannehill started 20 games at A&M to Manziel's 24.

I'm with you on the first point. I'm not sure I understand how the 2nd part would work or why it's as important as the first.

I would rather the Browns prioritize what's best for developing Manziel, regardless of how that impacts Hoyer. No idea personally if that means playing him this coming week. I do recognize his inexperience and am honestly pretty amazed that the Browns have been patient enough to pretty much keep him on the sidelines for nearly the whole year. I was convinced they would throw him in way too early. They haven't done that. It may still qualify as "early" to play Manziel but not to the ridiculous extent proposed at the start of the season.

Fine, if you'd like a better answer and someone more comparable. 3 years in college, one being a red shirt.
