Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
David Griffin essentially just turned Dion Waiters (and that Memphis pick) into:

- Iman Shumpert, our new starting shooting guard when he heals up who is a fantastic perimeter defender.
- Timofey Mozgov, *hopefully* our new starting center who is exactly who we needed inside on this team.
- J.R. Smith, pretty much Dion Waiters 1.5

Fantastic job.

We're giving up two heavily protected first round picks. Not sure why anyone is freaking out.

In 24 hours we just turned Dion Waiters and 1 additional draft pick in to 3 guys who fill glaring holes in our roster.

For **** sake, go grab a beer and just soak it all in.

Is it okay if I drink a bourbon instead? :chuckle:

What I like about the deal we made with Dion also is that we sent him to a title contender. He didn't get sent to some scrub team.

Great job by Griffin. Let's roll!

Anyone contextualizing this through the lense of the first LeBron era is missing a huge difference in that era vs this new one.

Every acquisition we made in 2005-2010 was done without us having a true legit 2nd option/star player next to LeBron. The needs and expectations we had on the players then was so much greater.

Our situation now is very different. We need depth and fit around 3 stars and we need them to all play together and gel.

It seems like people think that our team is what we saw on the floor against Philly and that we just traded Dion and a pick to add Mozgov, Shump, and Smith to THAT team.

Would have liked to get another asset back given the two 1st rounders but have to admit I'm kind of excited to see how it plays out.

Griff, one thing you have to give him is the dude is about business.

He identifies the guys he wants and gets it done.

Doesn't worry about "winning" trades, he just gets the guys he wants.

Time will tell if that will prove a mistake but for now we have a pretty good looking squad! Still need at least 1 more big with Andy out.

Opinion of NBA writers on Twitter so far seems to be positive. Interesting to see the trade grades here.

I guess the average grade will be around B- to C+.
I like it. Mozgov is a legit big with defensive and offensive strengths.

i will miss the memphis pick because it used to help me win any fan arguments about the longevity of the cavs. It was a legit chance to add young talent down the road.

Now griff has put us on a clear win now mode. Its annoying we have such large expirings as our only tool, seems like there are a lot less bad contracts around now the cap is set to rise.

YES! YESSSSS! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU____K YES!!!!!!!!!

Jesus people quit drinking the kool aid and stop being homers for a minute.

This is an AWFUL trade for the cavs. You could get the same deal for 1/2 the price if you WAIT until the deadline. Such a shame.

Shump and Smith are rotational throw in. The Cavs needed to find a team who would give a first rounder for Waiters to get enough assets for Mozgov. The Thunder finally came knocking after tiring of Lamb and Jackson.

Can we still grab Dalembert off waivers? Not sure how cap checks out. He can't be any worse then Haywood at the moment...

This is key - we need Dalembert or some other reasonably comaprable big to solidify the front line IMO. Problem is alot of other teams will bid vet min.

Sure, but by then, the Cavs would be struggling for a playoff spot with a moody Lebron. Lebron wanted a center and they got one.
