Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lots of people yesterday saying that if Griffin was able then flip that OKC first into a big, the deal was likely a huge success.

Is the addition of an additional first now an overpay? I'm not sure yet. Feels like it.
I know they needed a big but I don't like giving up two firsts..
Of course you can say Dion brought back, Smith, Shumpert and Mozgov...that's a hall..I think I would have liked to have seen two bigs brought in.

How can Tristan cover the backup big position when he starts?
Love starts at PF, Mozgov at C, Tristan covers both as a backup. Or Love starts, Tristan starts, and Mozgov covers the backup C and Marion backup PF.

Highly doubt Tristan (6'9) is going to be starting over Mozgov (7'1). Hell, even when Andy comes back, he might just be relegated to bench duty, too.

I misunderstood what he meant at first.

I thought he wasn't in favor of us actually acquiring Mozgov and wanted us to get a backup PG first. It was my bad.

This is the epitome of why we needed the russian on our team... just wait for it.

Zero Fucks Given.

Yeah I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that you would have rather us gotten a backup PG instead of Mozgov by the way it was worded.

Has Shumpert played PG before? He has the talent too but I just wasn't sure if it has worked.

I think that he has, at least in spots. I could be wrong on that though.

I sort of agree - but I'm not sure DEN has a motivation to cave though. Because Mozgov has a cheap team option next year and he is only 28 DEN really has zero reason to move him right now.

There is a chance they just held out.

But your broader point is probably accurate, we theoretically could have had more leverage holding out until the deadline for other targets.

It's like when we bent the Lakers over for 2 1sts for Ramon Sessions. We knew they desperately needed a PG and weren't going to come off it.

Denver knew there was no way we were going to go into the playoffs without a center, so they knew we would cave at some point. Time would not have gotten us a better deal because we needed him more than they needed to move him.

Besides, getting him earlier increases the time these guys have to play together before the playoffs.

So what's the running total right now for 2014-2015?

Cavs Out:

Andrew Wiggins
Dion Waiters
Anthony Bennett
Sergey Karasev
Tyler Zeller
Jarrett Jack
Alonzo Gee
4 First Rounders (Cavs 2016, OKC 2015, MEM 2015, MIA 2015)
6 Second Rounders

Cavs In:

Lebron James
Kevin Love
Timofey Mozgov
Iman Shumpert
J.R. Smith
Brendan Haywood's Contract

How does everyone feel about that? To me looks like you could argue that's about 3 picks too much.

If you ignore the rocky start to the year, seems like you do that deal 10 times out of 10. If this week's trades help turn Lebron and Love back into the real Lebron and Love, then it's probably a roaring success.

Just wish Gilbert hadn't put us in a position where probably 2-3 picks and a young guy could've been kept on the roster.

Atrocious use of 1st round picks, absolutely atrocious. It wouldn't have been the moves I would of made

Love - can he live up to the hype of being a max player? Jury still out
jr smith - no description needed
Shumpert - Injury prone, may have some upside. I still don't think he is even the answer as a starter in the league
Mozgov - Big body that grabs rebounds. Was just about to lose his starting job for the lowly Nuggets.

This is far from a homerun. I'm not convinced we will beat the bulls or raptors yet.

You just have to wonder how the team would have looked if we waited until the deadline and could have gotten these dudes for a sack of potato chips.

Jesus people quit drinking the kool aid and stop being homers for a minute.

This is an AWFUL trade for the cavs. You could get the same deal for 1/2 the price if you WAIT until the deadline. Such a shame.
You live in a world that is based on asset maximization and long term futures market.

The Cavs are trying to live in a world based on putting a team on the court now that has depth around its 3 superstar players, while still being fairly young, and still having additional remaining trade assets.

Its not Koolaid. Its reality.

It seems like you might enjoy following a team like the Wolves or Utah. Tons of young players. Lots of upside, potential, down the road, possibilities.

If those are the things you prefer to follow as a fan, there is nothing wrong with that. Go for it.

RealWolvesFan and RealJazzFan awaits with open arms.

i will miss the memphis pick because it used to help me win any fan arguments about the longevity of the cavs. It was a legit chance to add young talent down the road.

Now griff has put us on a clear win now mode. Its annoying we have such large expirings as our only tool, seems like there are a lot less bad contracts around now the cap is set to rise.
Still have all of our own 1sts except next year though. Plus you know Griff will have the green light to buy 2nd rounders, which are for sale nearly every year.

Cleveland added and upgraded young talent (all acquired players under 30) while addressing the roster needs.

Add another backup C and the roster is set going into the stretch run with enough time to gel into their roles

I would have loved to been able to keep one of those firsts, but it really isn't a big deal. We now have a better team. We have more depth and our pieces fit better together.

Lots of people were on board with trading the Memphis pick for Mozgov. That is what we did.

If you just imagine we traded Waiters and first for Smith, Mozgov, and Shumpert it is a pretty solid deal.

We got 3 players for one and all of them fill needs.
