The ISIS offensive in Iraq

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I think we can move beyond the strawman of "would we be better off with no cops" and move directly into "I wish there were more accountability" for the asshole cops out there.

Nobody is strawmanning anything bud.

Talking about more police accountability is one thing. Asserting that they sign up to protect and serve, but are trained to kill civilians is what was actually said.

We've covered the need for more accountability and training for cops 10x over.

Well, duh. But you get that "strawman" when people start comparing police officers to ISIS.

I don't want to draw the wrath of gourimoko, but brutality by the police isn't generally racially motivated, though I'm sure some of it. Police officers are trained to instill fear and terror in the general public. They are trained to ignore our rights, and let the masses know who is in charge.

Most cops signed up to protect the public, but that is either trained out of them, or the good cops are let go in favor of the butchers. The federal government knows people would be alarmed if the U.S. Army was marching the streets to provide this function, so they want to accomplish the same thing with police instead.

They aren't looking to kill me. Or you. They are looking to kill U.S. troops in the Middle East, along with whoever else over there they are killing.

This isn't about which group has better people. ISIS are murdering scum. But so is much of our militarized police force. And the fact is that if you are here in the U.S. you are much more likely to be killed by a cop than you are ISIS or a random American. If I was in Iraq I would fear ISIS much more than I do U.S. police.

This is the only point I made with the comparison... American policing to me, is far more important than containing or defeating the Islamic State.

Everything else being talked about here, and the tons of strawman arguments being lobbed about are tangential and inconsequential.

I don't think anyone is rooting for the Islamic State in here; I think several posters, including myself, are simply saying it is not a top priority for us on the political agenda.

In essence, if I could get 5 reasonable large expenditures assigned by Congress, to be focused on like a laser, combating ISIS and "terrorism" in general would not be one of them.

People act like it's normal to be pursued by cops when minding your own business... Act within the law and you're not in danger at all. 97% of the time.

You may actually be in more danger to be harmed by your neighbor than police. Pulling numbers on police homicides is not a good indicator of how they act buy-in-large because they're called into potentially dangerous situations every day; it's their job to attend to them. If your job is confronting illegal activity every day of the year, you're going to have some escalated situations peppered in there. Not every person is willing to cooperate and yes, even some folks have weapons of their own. It's obnoxious that this assertion is still being made and/or defended. You feel oppressed, we get it. You hold a certain faction of people responsible for it, we get it.

That's a complete copout. Pun intended. You don't want to put a number out there because it would make your argument look ridiculous.

I don't have a number. How the fuck would I know how many cops do nothing but terrorize the public? I know it is too many. I'm sad for this country that people like you disagree.

I agree that one should do everything they can to avoid dealing with cops. But if you run a stop sign should your life be in danger?

It isn't. Put your hands on the steering wheel, like they ask, and take your ticket. 97% of the time, you're getting a ticket and moving along. Unless you get one shitty ass cop.

Do you really need all of them? I posted a link to a site earlier with the 1,100 killings. I could probably find 5,000 other incidents where they don't kill, only maim or violate the victim. I don't think it is necessary though. You will only believe what your masters told you to believe.

You're off the deep end... I'm just not searching for conspiracy theories to grasp onto.

You act like compliance with the law is irrelevant in each of these situations. Don't break the law. Don't be shady. You'll be more than safe.

Edit: Taking a glance at the .net you posted.... THIS is the shit you're using to vilify police in America? Within the first 25 you posted, like 10 of the cases have "suspect killed in..."

I mean, are you serious?

So, yes. In conclusion, if you're assaulting your wife with a gun in your hand, shooting at people, trying to run them over... You might just be in danger.
