The ISIS offensive in Iraq

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do you mean outside Iraq and Syria or in general?

Because they have killed many more than a thousand in Iraq and Syria.

Outside of Iraq and Syria it probably isn't close to 100. Inside of those two countries I haven't been paying much attention because that is their own war where most of them are from.

I would be relieved that our own police aren't quite as bloodthirsty as ISIS, except ISIS is over there and the police are right here.

Indeed.

As a white guy that weighs 30 pounds less than @Maximus at the same height, If I had a choice between being put inside of a room full of ISIS and a room full of angry American cops, I'm going with cops all day. They'd probably beat the shit out of me for a while and force a false confession, but at least they'd have jobs to lose if they were to kill me. ISIS has nothing to lose and everything to gain from abducting me and beheading me on camera.

There's a lot fewer ISIS committing a lot more murders than cops. They're far more dangerous per capita.

That said, I'm not exactly proud of our police force nationwide and not real enthused with our justice system either.

Very rarely do they lose their jobs when they kill a civilian.

This should make you more afraid of ISIS extremists.... ISIS have nothing to lose. In fact, the scariest part of this is that ISIS people are driven intrinsically to kill. They've learned that death is the beginning of a reward for killing.

Intrinsically, cops just want to keep getting paid. Runs contrary to what could happen if you end up ending someone's life on the job.

Lot of cops want to push people around too, particularly white cops against minorities. No reason to lie about it.

Why? There are millions of police right here that are just as brutal, and the federal government wants to arm them like a standing army, which is essentially what they are. I'm not planning a trip to Iraq or Syria anytime soon.

I don't want to draw the wrath of gourimoko, but brutality by the police isn't generally racially motivated, though I'm sure some of it. Police officers are trained to instill fear and terror in the general public. They are trained to ignore our rights, and let the masses know who is in charge.

Most cops signed up to protect the public, but that is either trained out of them, or the good cops are let go in favor of the butchers. The federal government knows people would be alarmed if the U.S. Army was marching the streets to provide this function, so they want to accomplish the same thing with police instead.

"millions of police right here that are just as brutal"

A quick google search says the US employs about 780,000 - 900,000 police officers

....Millions!

Yeah that's true. Some of those cops don't much care about the color of the people they push around, either.

I'm not a huge fan of cops in general simply because that "courtesy badge" thing really pisses me off. They're supposed to enforce the laws equally, not cut breaks for each other friends and families.

But that being said, you've got to judge each cop separately

Just to back up Optimus here for a second...

1) He's right, police brutality is not a race issue and is not always racially motivated. I don't know if it is true or not that it is usually motivated by race; I think it might make some feel better if it weren't but that might not be the case. However, when observing across racial lines, the problem because more pronounced.

2) As an American and a former political activist I have to say, police brutality is far more concerning to me than the threat of the Islamic State. I do not walk around in fear of a terrorist attack; whatsoever. I do however have apprehension towards the police (except in Honolulu, those guys are completely different than most that I've experienced).

Okay, this is scary.

Nah, it's overseas.. Not as dangerous as those tyrannical police whom are trained to go out there and kill kill kill. :celb (13):

I nearly wet myself with fear. Those monsters "hacked" a twitter account to threaten U.S. troops at the same moment our president was out stumping for new cyber security laws he wants to introduce. Couldn't have come at a better time to drum up support for a new invasion of our rights.
