Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He hit some tough 3s. It happens. He still only had 12 points all game so it's pretty weird that you would call that being abused...
Yeah and it was something like 7 or 8 in a row...that is what I would call abuse by a guy who barely made it into the NBA and has only hung on as a defensive specialist.

I love Delly, but he should be third string.

Delly did nothing wrong tonight. If you're gonna blame this loss on him shooting 1-4 despite playing great defense, getting steals when we needed them, getting an offensive board late in the game, and keeping the ball moving, you're crazy.

Find something else to bitch about...
He did not create any offense in the half court for teamates and Houston left him wide open. It was 4-5 for many posessions. He is a below average backup pg. lets be honest. He should be the emergency PG, or 15th guy.

In fairness, Delly would have required a crowbar to remove the ball from LBJ tight grasp. Nobody created any offense because they could not get the ball off him. That was obviously the strategy and as usual Dellavedova followed the coaches instructions. Just not sure whether it was Blatt or LBJ was coaching this afternoon though.
Anyway, up in the Peanut-gallery i am sure it is all Dellys fault again. Never mind that he probably played his best defensive stretch as a Cav in that 4th quarter. Or that Smith shot 3/13 or Shumpert 0/4.

I can't wait for Kyrie to come back so he shows posters like you his value as a backup PG playing 10-15 minutes a night. Why do you think coaches have always insisted on playing him so much? Are they all stupid? It's because they see what he brings to the table - something you and other posters obviously don't get.

7 or 8 in a row yet Beverly had 12 points? Might want to check your math there, buddy...

actually they were very agressive in trying to find an upgrade at the deadline
so.......
they tried to trade for 3 different backup pg's
also told by our insiders that Delli was offered in multiple trade talks
they dont view him that highly
we dont have any other pg's besides Irving
but nice try

I can see a legit debate about whether Delly works as a second string vs third string PG under normal circumstances. But the problem with being a second string PG is that occasionally the first string guy is going to be out and you're going to have to play entire games. Watching Delly at 40 MPG hasn't been fun.

I think the biggest problem is that Delly is expected to be both the 2nd and 3rd string PG.

Here is the thing. he is a great guy, and there are some regular season games where he can be useful. We are trying to win a title here for the 1st time in franchise history. These games will be close and ever weakness and mistake counts. You have to have a backup PG that can make plays here and there when Irving sits.
God forbid Irving has to miss time due to injury and foul trouble, I am worried that backup PG will end up really biting us in the ass.
Delli is a great guy, but I want to win a title.. Too bad we could not snatch Mo Williams or Cole, or that Lin was not bought out. Irving is going to have to play major major minutes in the playoffs.

7 or 8 points out of 12? What math do I need to check? If Delly is as good of a defender as you claim him to be Beverly should be the kind of guy he can hold down
Alright, my bad I thought you were saying he had 7 or 8 baskets in a row. Nevertheless, if he had one bad stretch where he gave up that many in a row, that means he held Beverly to only 4 the rest of the game, which isn't bad. Just saying i think Delly gets an extraordinary amount of hate for someone who's simply a backup PG. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY ever notices when he comes down with an offensive rebound in crunch time, or hits a guy for an assist, or plays good defense, or gets a steal, or hits a Delly trey when we need it. But the moment he turns the ball over (which he has hardly done this year) or makes another mistake, everybody on this board jumps on him.

He's our backup PG and the Shump experiment at PG we saw in Indiana a little last game didn't go so well (which I knew it wouldn't because he can't dribble or pass too well) as he coughed it up 5 times. Everyone has to just deal with Delly as our backup PG, despite how much they hate him, because besides Kyrie, he's the only other PG on the roster.

I think Delly ideally works best as a combo guy off the bench. He's a decent spot up shooter, can bring up the ball against pressure, and he's can use feisteness better against guys who can't just explode by him. Ideally we can pair him next year with a more offensively competent PG
