Ray Farmer Suspended 4 Games for Text-Gate

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not going to freak out about the Browns losing a 4th rounder. I still don't think it's fair though.

I see a 4th as significantly less harsh than 2 2nd rounders. I also am not all that livid that they will lose a pick in the punishment. I am pretty upset that everything else seems to be getting swept under the rug. When it's a good team, anyways.

What standard equates illegal communication with deflated balls?

I don't care about the pick unless it's above a 4th. In that case, this thing is absurd. If it's a lesser pick, still ridiculous but at least there is relative consistency there (as you said, Saints lost 2 2nd rounders which is way worse than a 4th rounder, for something way worse in bountygate. ie, consistency)

I find it hilarious you guys think this is actually fair to dock draft picks for a fucking text message.

Isn't the rule intended to avoid coaches being helped by someone in an unfair vantage point?

How is texting coaches in frustration about the current game strategy (not running the ball, playing a particular player, etc.) a violation of the spirit of that law?

It's certainly something worthy of a fine, but I still don't comprehend how we cheated.

The rule broken. It is the matter of a rule being broken, as Goodell said yesterday. A rule was broken, but nothing is coming from it at this time. They've stated that there is no "smoking gun"; however, isn't that exactly what a deflated ball is? When it's your team's responsibility to keep them within regulation?

So are you saying that sending a text that says "Hoyer sucks" to the sideline is worse than deflating game balls for competitive advantage, or vice versa?

Sounds like it to me.

I'm saying we have no idea what the text said, when it was sent or who it was sent to.

We don't have any idea of what happened with the Patriots situation.

We don't even know if they're actually being docked a draft pick.

Since you're comfortable painting all of those pictures yourself in spite of a lack of information, create all the strawmen you'd like.

Rumor on Atlanta sports talk this morning was that the Browns and Falcons were both gonna lose a 2nd and 4th round pick

I like how all I asked was what do you think the Patriots will be docked and you accuse me of strawman blah blah blah.

Regardless of what the text said, a text is not competitive advantage, and is thus less serious than competitive advantage. Unless you're implying a text message allowed the Browns to cheat, which is stupid.

When it was sent and who it was sent to is not important, it broke the rules regardless or else there would be no punishment coming.

We don't know exactly what was said, but it can me intimated, based on Farmer's apology, that it had to do with criticism of the events on the field. (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...rmer-apologizes-for-texting-scandal-it-was-me: "I take full responsibility for myself and my actions and the things that I've learned from that is that ... there is a platform to have those conversations and have those things talked about and discussed. I misplayed that platform.")

It has also been widely reported that the messages went to Dowell and another Browns' executive.

Well actually what you did was paint the picture that if the Browns get docked and the Pats don't it's bullshit, despite having almost no knowledge of either situation.

Beyond that, you glossed over the point that we don't even know what the punishment is...which you've also gotten prematurely worked up over.

The Browns aren't under investigation for any sort of competitive advantage, and Troy Vincent himself said that the text being opinion-based will factor into whatever punishment they do decide to hand down.

So while you're getting worked up over rumors on AM radio, I'm inclined to take a wait and see approach....

But like I said, don't let that stop you from keeping up the good fight here.

Punshing the fans, only in Cleveland, blah blah blah...

Kay, fair enough on those points, but remember this started when I simply stated an opinion. People disagreed and a debate began. I already told you I'm not going to get "worked up" over losing a 4th round pick but this is a forum so it won't stop me from saying I don't believe it's fair, and citing instances (ie Steelers and Tomlin) that make me come to that conclusion.

I'm fine with wait and see, and I can almost guaran fucking tee (okay, I can't, but I'm just feeling strongly about this) that it won't be a 2nd and a 4th like that "rumor on AM radio" says, so please, don't go there.

If you're about wait and see that's fine, but two things; 1) pretty sure it comes from very good sources that it will be "severe", although who knows what that really means and 2) I forgot what my second point was and have to get to class. K.

Can't believe the Browns found possibly the stupidest way to lose a draft pick (potentially)...

Is there anything dumber that can cause the loss of a pick? For real... I can't think of anything...
