Ray Farmer Suspended 4 Games for Text-Gate

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
JSS is that guy who was bitching that we never gave Colt McCoy a fair chance. We could call him a troll, but that would insinuate that he is consciously posting bait with the intention of riling people up. Unfortunately, that's not the case and he's actually serious about his poor posts.

Ignore him.

I have a sneaking feeling we're going to lose our 3rd rounder to this which is asinine.

Yes, that would be beyond ridiculous. But we shouldn't be mad. That isn't hurting the fans at all, right?

(Ok, sorry, I'm done. Point has been made :chuckle: )

What a hero.
yeah it is kinda heroic. I wouldnt gone that far to say that.. glad to see you feel that way because i believe people in bad situations in their life can do inspirational things but i guess in Cleveland if it isnt an embarrasment its heroic cause theres nothng in between the too

Why are we assuming Johnny wanted to go/put himself into rehab? I would like that to be true but I don't buy it. It's more likely damage control or an ultimatum by the team than it is him recognizing he has a problem, based on everything we've learned about him since he was thrust into the spotlight.

Chris Carter said as much on National Radio. Plus the team would need leverage such as being able to suspend Johnny or something as a cut Johnny would just go sign with someone else since there are teams that would take a gambit on a free agent Johnny football. We havent had any reports indicating Johnny's admission into rehab has anything to with the Team or the NFL and is more likely a decision that came on a personal or family level. so why would one assume it was when there is no reports that Johnny going to rehab was anything other than his choice.

Because of his history of telling people what they wanted to hear and then going straight back to his old behaviors once the heat died down. Its happened so many times that I'm skeptical that this isn't a more extreme "tell the people what they want to hear and lay low for awhile" kind of scenario.

I don't want it to be, but there's more reason to believe it is than there is to believe it isn't.

The thing that would hurt Farmer the most, in my opinion, is a hefty fine. The thing that would hurt Haslam the most is losing a draft pick. If the Browns lose a pick, I think there's a bit of a message being sent to Jimmy as well. Bit of tin-hat on that theory, but the NFL is punishing a lot more than just Farmer with the loss of a pick. And FWIW, Troy Vincent did say that the fact that the texts were opinions, rather than sign stealing or whatnot, might be mitigating factors in this. If it's me conducting the hearing, based off that information, I don't hit the team with a severe punishment, but I certainly so make them feel it a bit to get them on notice.

Also, it's just asinine that the Patriots are getting off with nothing at this point. The NFL is pushing a narrative that they can't find the "smoking gun"; however, they were busted with underinflated game footballs... I just don't get that. I say punish them for breaking the rule (i.e. having underinflated balls on the field of play) and let Kraft grieve it (if he can).

Just because you're not willing to make the obvious connection doesn't mean we all have to.

Don't worry guys, they'll only take draft picks.

this doesn't hurt us fans at all!
I would have to think that a FO that so brazenly disregards what is a good rule ( not going back over the reasons, this was already broached) Is far more damaging to the fan than getting upset with the NFL for enforcing a rule. Don't be so stupid as to be caught red handed and you won't lose draft picks. Farmer and whoever else violated this rule holds responsibility, no one else.

Agreed, which is why punishing them by taking away their tools to make the team better just punishes the fans.

Italicized doesn't male a ton of sense, either.

So they are not responsible? I'm not sure how you hold that opinion, or how you cannot grasp that. Saying the NFL needs to 'please think about the children' and not properly punish the Browns because it hurts the fans is absurd. If the fans are hurt, then they need to direct their anger at the Browns FO that caused it. Simple as that.

I forgot quoting italicizes everything. No, I said I agreed with the bolded, which is where you said they are responsible...

There are plenty of ways to punish RAY FARMER without hurting the fans, you are being very short sighted. Taking away draft picks is the best way to punish Ray Farmer? You have got to be fucking kidding.

Well to be fair, Farmer's job is to build a good football team. Losing draft pick(s) will make it more difficult for him to accomplish that, which may result in him losing his job. That would be like taking away a list of leads from a salesman. It does hurt him.

Ok...that's a pretty iffy connection but sure. You make his job harder. Since when is that a great way to punish people? So not only will his job be harder, it hurts everyone around him and the fans included. Why not, say...fine him? Suspend him? Are these not better options that focus on "Ray Farmer" and don't cause collateral damage? Yeah, I'm mad at Farmer for breaking the rules, but that doesn't mean I think snatching draft picks from the team and making the team worse is fair.
