JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As cold as he looks right now, I still have faith in the Pipe. It will be annoying to the opposing team's fans when he hits to a bullshit clip of 8-12 or 15. Tears will be delicious.

As cold as he looks? He was 6 for 12 shooting with 15 points? Good game from JR, loved the crazy contested shot he drained in front of the Boston bench with shot clock winding down...

Knew it wasn't anything.

Jr is streakier than you think. For every 8/13 game from three he has another one to set his percentage back to under.400. They just don't really happen two games in a row normally

What's the feeling in the fanbase...he going to pick up his player option? And if not how much does he see in the free agency?

Id be utterly shocked if jr gave thought to leaving.

Loves the team, loves the teammates, loves his role.

Gilbert pays. Jr is on good behavior here which helps him in many ways, financially and in the box score. Plus it's telling of how invested he is

I still doubt he declines his option. Teams aren't going to look at half a year playing next to LeBron and think he's not a troublemaker. Remember, GMs were saying they wouldn't touch JR when we traded for him. JR was the COST of picking up Shumpert, because his contract was that "bad".

I've thought the same thing. Either GM's will conclude that JR is a completely new guy, or they'll conclude that he's the same guy who is only not a problem in very specific environments. The latter makes a lot more sense. Any team investing in him will have to consider the risk that they're signing a 5th/6th man who has the potential to implode your team even if he is playing well personally. It's just one of those situations where his value is probably going to be greater here than anywhere else, where he enjoys playing, and where the owner pays. That usually results in a contract.

I honestly believe JR finishes his best years with LeBron. He absolutely loves basketball right now, he's relished in this offense, he maximized his skills on this team as well. I never seen him get blocks like he does here.

Something just tells me he will take less money here eventually and continue to shoot open 3's. That's a win for us, a focused JR on cheap pay, eventually.

My guess is he declines his option and signs something like a three year, $18 million (total) deal with us, which basically locks him into a role as either our starting two or our sixth/seventh man (with Thompson being the other). He's playing the best two-way basketball of his career and seems to love playing next to LeBron. The fact that he's actually become a capable defender is mind-boggling. He's bought in to our system and the team will want to keep him around. It's a good deal on both sides.

Despite not shooting well in two of three games, J.R. Smith's on-off numbers so far this playoffs have been outstanding:

On court: +18.4 per 100 possessions.
On-off court: +22.4 per 100 possessions.

He's our leader in both (of those who have played consistent minutes).

On-off numbers are dicey when we're talking about only three games played, but the fact that he's been a net positive despite shooting well in only one of the games is a testament to his defensive effort this year as a Cav. Who would have thought that he would be a consistent presence as a perimeter defender?

JR will likely be suspended for multiple games after that.

i agree and i'm not really upset about it because i don't think the Cavs can beat the Bulls without Love (i expect him to be out for a while) anyway.

except he did it to the wrong guy. we all know who should have been on the receiving end of that.

I misspoke in the game thread, there isn't a mandatory one-game suspension for a flagrant-2 foul. The league is going to review the play, and I'm guessing he misses a game or two for making direct contact to Crowder's face.

He wasn't intentionally aiming for his head --- Crowder started crumbling before JR even hit him --- but contact to head is contact to the head. I'm just hoping he doesn't get fined as well.
