JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Heat of the moment, shit happens. When you're full of emotions, you don't behave accordingly. JR made stupid mistakes and Blatt rightfully benched him. JR himself would look back and say he was wrong.

JRs improved aggressiveness on defense is one of the surprises of his new role and a reason he gets the starting nod over shump. I think got a little overexcited on his D today and got into foul trouble too early. He will be back draining threes in this series.

JR never fails to amuse me! If and only if he pledges his life, loyalty, and honor to the city and the team, there is no doubt he should be getting a statue somewhere in there.

That's hilarious, but I would have hoped he'd be a little more diplomatic about it.

I would really love to see JR establish his 3 in front of the supportive crowd in game 2. He's a career 30% 3 point shooter in the playoffs, and that's over a fairly substantial # of games so I think we really need to get his shit right before we face the Bulls. You know JR is gonna be wide open so it's just up to him to deliver.

For better or worse, J.R. is our "irrational-confidence" guy. On the bright side, his shot is not something I'm worried about as he will continue to get looks and he doesn't really take many bad shots on our team. He let his emotions get out of control tonight, but that's okay. I like how much he cares, and we have the veterans to reign him in and the depth to cover for him when he does get a little too heated. It looks like we're going to start letting him go to the hoop a little more, which I actually like because he constantly has wide open lanes to the basket, he's not a bad passer, and he's a good FT shooter with decent hops and an under-rated handle. It's a nice little weapon to keep defenses honest and off-balance even more than we already do. Always nice to see positive new playoff wrinkles. It means Blatt knows what he's doing.

I reviewed when JR came out of the game. He wasn't "benched" in my view. He simply drew his 4th foul in the 3rd quarter and Blatt wanted to keep some ammo in the pouch in case it was needed later.

The 4th foul he incurred was though funny as he laid the Celtic on his ass by running directly into him on the pick. And I like the fire in JR after the BS call when he got called for his 3rd foul, and overall he didn't play a bad game through then.

So I can see why Blatt would want him to sit with 4 fouls in the 3rd. And then Shumpert came in and played very good D so why put JR back in if everything was going well overall and Blatt didn't need the ammo in the 4th. He wasn't benched in my view, just a tool in the box not needed.

I'd buy that. Shump made a huge impact and Blatt is definitely one to roll with the guys getting it done.

It was clear the event was too much for JR, he was pressing and out of his usual flow. Good decision to bench as it that point he had lost his cool and his edge. Next game he'll bounce back. I do think he has a tenancy to get nervous and wants to not let his team mates down so there will be games where he gives us little due to the pressure. Who would have thought the irrationally confident guy is a little insecure inside?

Hope JR's putting up extra shots in some gym somewhere. We need him for this run.
