JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm pretty sure history says JR is going to be cold in the playoffs. Didn't someone post his career playoff averages earlier and it was something like 36% FG and 28% 3's? It's time for Zen Master LeBron to get his in his ear and get him going.

*edit* Statmuse says 38% FG and 30% 3's in 52 games.

Mar only disagrees because he hasn't gotten a beta invite. It's not perfect, but it's awesome regardless.

We have so many 'X-Factors' but JR could very well be the most important. When JR's 3s drop, we go on a run and barrage teams into brick walls. It's a little concerning that it seems historically and based on the 2 games we've played already, that JR lets the occasion of the Playoffs get in his head.

I'm still pretty confident he can jump out of his slump - he just needs to continue shooting in rhythm and reframe from forcing the issue. Let it come naturally within the flow of the offense and he/we'll be okay.

Good job we have zombie mike on the bench to step in

I was pleased with JR's defense even with his shot off. He is almost playing with too much energy. Have to hope he can find his groove here soon and settle down.

Mo Williams had that problem and played too sped up. Ie some similarities. Cleaning 3's that were butter in the reg season.

Jump shots are one of the strangest things in sports, how streaky they are. You almost have to expect to miss six in row from time to time, even if are you in the top 30 out there.

When hes that open you can see him gather and think and slow his motion. The science of choking is interesting. During pressure situations the conscious mind over thinks and you become aware of things that would normally be subconscious (due to 10,000+ hours of practice) and it essentially goes back to square one.

Guys who choke basically care too much in the moment. Clutch guys can let go of the pressure and realize its just the same shot they have practiced millions of times

had the same problem in New York during their last playoff run. Let's hope he can calm down and start shooting without worrying, that would be huge for us. He doesn't need to worry there is enough backup

This is so very true. At the top level of any sport differences are more mental than physical. Reactions times are on the order of milliseconds. Engaging in conscious thought at the moment of performance just interferes. I think some people are born with the ability to stay in the moment, but anyone can work on it. This also the cause of streaky play, especially slumps, thinking too much about the last failure cascades into a slump, while success builds on success. That is where the term "playing unconscious" comes in, although I am pretty sure it comes from the subconscious, as you say, so-called "body memory" from thousands of hours of practice and experience.

Came in early (Lebron joined) to the BG to get up extra shots.

Obviously paid off.

Worth repeating; we need him for this run.
