Just thinking quickly ,without putting a lot of forethought, Blatt might have to switch his lineup and put Lebron at the 4 , and swing players into the 3 to cover Love's absence.

I think Marion's role will be pivotal in this series without love. If he can give us any defense at all, then it allows us to put Lebron at the four. If he can't step up, I don't know who we put at three, especially without JR.

James Jones. Thats the only other player you can start at the three.
I don't like him at the four because he isn't a PF ,he can't defend/bang down low, but Lebron can , plus Lebron has a advantage over any other PF he plays against.

We've already been playing Jones. I meant that someone else besides Jones will have to play minutes at the three but yet, he should be at the three as well when we go small.

I'd like to see Marion getting an opportunity as a starter. IMO he has bigger chances of being a decent starter and defender than making any impact from the bench. And James Jones is the opposite, he's due to making impact from the bench mainly. Even though we'd need his scoring in JR's absence.

KI - Shumpert - Marion - LeBron - Mozgov

Dellavedova - Jones - TT to play. Jones and TT with higher minutes.

IMO Jones' 3 point shooting will be HUGE for the Cavs. This guy will have to step up. If he doesn't, KI and LeBron will be overcharged with scoring and that's never good. Specially while JR is out.

Marion..and then you run people in there like Miller who can shoot.
This is why I wanted our rookie Harris to get more time during the season.
Now the other thing you might be able to do is use Shump there for a series or two.

We should start our worse defensive player in Smith's absence. Mirotic does not enter the game until the 2nd quarter. Therefore if you're going to play Jones maybe start him at PF. I even think there's an argument for getting Perk some minutes against Noah. When Mirotic and Taj come in for the 2nd and 4th quarters you will then need TT and Shump.

If we have to go small you may see a small ball lineup of

Delly at the point
Kyrie at the 2
Shump at the 3
Lebron at the 4
and Tristan at the 5.

Have Delly distribute and be a POA and give Kyrie and Lebron free reign to score.

Shump will probably start the next game.
It will be a jack n the box lineup for that first game against the Bulls.

But I stick to moving Lebron to the 4.
I do agree with using Perkins more that series and Blatt is going to havew to use more of his bench that he intended to.

With all that said..

he asked out of the 1st game of the playoffs against the Celtics. He's human. He's 30. He gets tired.

He was able to power through last game because it was a close out game. Why do you think they were reporting about his cramping issues today.

Right now he's at 43 mins. The last time he played that many mins was 2011. He may choked, but he also was very fatigued the finals as well. This was when he was 26.

Its going to be a slow death if LeBron ends up playing 44 mins a game. You'd rather he be fresher in less mins than playing too many mins with no lift.

If I'm wrong, awesome. That means LeBron truly turned back the clock and morphed into Miami LeBron from a couple years ago. But now we have to smart and spell a few mins here and there.

This is right. Things are going to get ugly if we have to ask Lebron to play 44 and singlehandedly carry us past Chicago. I don't think he is that guy any more. Love's loss is big.

I agree because TT is much better suited off the bench as that energy guy. Also keeps our bench rotation somewhat intact.

This could be a huge playoffs for LeBron in terms of playing the 4, surely we'd need him to match up with Paul Pierce if the Wiz made the East Finals, since he's been playing mostly 4. It's a shame we couldn't draw the Wiz next round because we match up fine with them without Love.

Blatt is actually what terrifies me most about the next series and us missing a couple of guys. It's no secret that his lineups have been suspect at times, even while healthy. But when we were missing just one guy, our lineups became awful. I know our depth is terrible, but I hope he plays guys more minutes instead of going to options that will hurt us on the floor. You know, give Chicago a taste of their own medicine.

Once JR is back, I agree that using Shump could work. I believe Blatt's used that lineup quite a bit while resting Kevin, and I thought it worked pretty well. While JR is out, I think Shump should start for him. Once JR gets back, I think a mix of TT, JJ, Marion, and Shump for Kevin is the best approach.

Some people are clamoring for Blatt to play our remaining starters/key rotation guys absurd minutes, others are wanting Blatt to dust off guys like Marion or Miller to play key minutes (and perhaps even start). So there's absolutely no way Blatt will please everyone.

Even if the Cavs beat the Bulls incredibly short-handed, players will get the praise. If the Cavs lose while incredibly short-handed, Blatt (and to a much lesser degree Olynyk, J.R. and the Boston series refs) will get all the blame. Thank god I'm not a coach. :chuckle:
