Okay...who the fuck are those people?

I mean, I saw the original trilogy, and the prequels. But I have no idea who any of those people are. So is this something in which I'm going to be lost if I haven't read some books or something?

I was going to take my son to see it, but I guess I'll just be buying tickets for him and a friend instead.

Its all new story. No one knows more than what has been posted online about characters.

Yeah, new story. I think you were okay when you didn't know who Luke, Leia, and Han were.

kylo ren is the bad guy with the sick red saber.

No idea who poe is.

Thats literally the extent of what we know. Lol.

I don't think that's what'll happen, but I'll put Force Awakens spoilers JIC.

If they use a major storyline from the EU, my guess is that the movie will just state it as exposition early in the movie, then move onto the real plot. Can't imagine they'll use an EU storyline as the main story, otherwise they'd just make the Thrawn Trilogy. So if you know a bunch of EU stuff, and it isn't referenced in the 1st act, it probably never happened in this canon. IMO.

Kylo Ren is the guy who's wearing a Vader-ish mask. Played by Adam Driver but you don't see his face. He's obviously a villain.

Poe Dameron is played by Oscar Isaac. Oscar Isaac was in the Russel Crowe Robin Hood, Ex-Machina and A Most Violent Year. He plays an X-Wing pilot and is a good guy.

John Boyega is actually the actor's name. He plays the black stormtrooper who is wielding a blue lightsaber at the end. The character's name is Finn. He's probably a good guy.

There's been a lot of speculation by fanboys like me about who/what they are. But other than what has been shown in the trailers, we know almost nothing about them, so all of the speculation could be 100% wrong. There are books and comics that explore their backstory, but it doesn't affect your understanding of the movie, per Lucasfilm people.
 
They really need to explain how a stormtrooper isn't a clone...

I mean they dedicated an entire movie to that concept (albeit a shitty movie).
 
Soo, seen all the movies, yada yada. Pumped about the upcoming one.

My girlfriend has never seen any of them. (dumb bitch, right?) So question is, what order would be the best to show her for the upcoming movie? I know some people watch it in different orders so was going to get some of your guys' ideas.

Unless clones are immortal, a lot have died, and the rest are all pretty long in the tooth. Just because all the initial stormtroopers were all clones doesn't mean their replacements need be as well.

Not saying that's what happened, but it makes more sense than if they all looked like geezing Jango Fets.

Don't expect a lot of what happens in those prequels to be gospel moving forward.

Chronologically, the clones were "hatched" over 50 years before the Force Awakens, so guessing they all died. I believe in Attack of the Clones they mentioned some sort of growth accelerator, so they age at a faster pace. Even if that wasn't true, I am sure it would be easy to find a way to write them all off.
