He's expected to fully recover before the playoffs.

Well run organizations don't make panic moves.

The Cavs would be dumb as fuck if they decided to sell low at all costs on Kevin because of this.

No, this isn't relevant on whether they should trade him or not. They shouldn't have traded him before this happened, and they shouldn't trade him while this is happening.

his knee is expected to be better before the playoffs. "Expected" means that the odds are it will happen, not that it is certain to happen. Also, his knee being better does not mean that he will be fully recovered to peak performance as an athlete.

The increased risk that Love will not be at peak performance level in this year's playoffs is relevant to whether we should trade him, because it actually does lower his value as a player to us. And he is the most replaceable of our top four players; Lebron or Kyrie could never be traded, even TT is more important than Love in a GS series.

I'm not saying we should sell low. Melo alone would not be enough. But I do think it moves the needle on the trade equation a little away from "hell no"

This is the first time I am hearing this, I am shocked. He played on it just fine in the Denver game and it didn't happen then, they removed a "foreign body" from his knee so I suppose it was a discomfort thing and a potential serious thing if not treated down the road. They probably did the surgery now to get it over with and eliminate any of what I just said.

Realistically, the Cavs can survive the East without him I just hope he is back and good to go in the playoffs. 6 weeks in like 2 weeks left in the season and you know he will keep in game shape. Even if it takes 7-8 weeks he can probably still make it back when it counts.

This season is turning into a post-championship crisis. It just doesn't want to get better.

God dammit @gourimoko and @InBoobieWeTrust...

I was totally off the Melo bandwagon because (1) there is NO WAY I'd ever consider Love for Melo, and (2) I thought all our other trade options would gut our depth...

But then you do something like this, and totally redeem the safari!!!!

Believe me.. if we have to trade Love for Melo, I say fuck off to all parties and keep it moving.

There's definitely a plausible three team trade scenario between the Cavs/Knicks/Wolves; just as there is for the Clippers/Knicks/3rd team wanting to take Crawford.

I just credited you and IBWT in the safari and bumped that thread so that we don't keep going off topic with the Love thread...

Although, I'm glad you did!

As long as Love can come back with no set backs before the playoffs, we should be fine during the season.

I really don't want us trading for Melo, especially after the injury. Our depth has been an issue all season, I'd rather the Cavs focus on building depth and make moves towards that, than add Melo. If the Cavs can somehow do both, Griffin deserves an award.

Found an interesting article. This is not the first time Love has had this procedure done on that knee.

Same doctor that did it last time, I believe. That article right said, it's a 4-6 week timeframe. He had it done in April 2013 and the Wolves weren't in the playoffs.

Love knows exactly what to expect, how to rehab it, and the timeframe of the injury. He's probably been playing with this since December. I think it was a strategical decision by Love to try and make himself 100% for the playoffs, rather than battling a sore knee until the summer and potentially worsening it.

So the fact that he had the knee cleaned out before , IMO, is a good sign.

Here is another article from 2013. This was published 8 weeks after he has the surgery done.(the interview could have been even sooner than that) At that point, "rehab was all done" and if he "wasn't 100%, he was very very close"

http://www.oregonlive.com/nba/index.ssf/2013/06/kevin_love_remains_optimistic.html

Summary:last time Love has this procedure done, he claimed he was almost 100% within 8 weeks.

Obviously he wasn't even rushing and reporters were rushing for the story at that time because the surgery was at the end of the season.

I think this is another very good indicator.

The strange thing is one even knows what play, what moment. Its just bam, Love needs surgery. Either way its important we secure the east #1 seed. Love will most likely be rusty through the first two rounds. Rest later. Find a way to get home court over Boston and Toronto. I think Love is injury prone, but there's nothing we can do about it. Heal up, try to grab some players and prepare for the second half of the season.

It wasn't really a play or a moment. He didn't tear anything.

Hes been sore since December. I think it's just a cumulative injury and he needed it cleaned out to be at his best.

This season is turning into a post-championship crisis. It just doesn't want to get better.

It's only a crisis if LBJ or Kyrie are injured for the rest of the season (knock on wood).

Otherwise, we're fine. Everyone will be healthy BEFORE the playoffs. All is well.

The ONLY concern is having NO MORE injuries. This means prioritizing rest above ALL ELSE after the All Star break.

I'm no doctor, but how many times can you clean out one knee? At some point is there nothing to clean out and it just becomes bone on bone? Will it start to become a recurring thing?

Mother fucker! This kinds of shit NEVER happens to the Warriors!

You should have stuck with your premise: "I'm no doctor."

A simple Google search revealed that people have had as many as 15-20 arthroscopic procedures depending on their issues and injuries. Think of it like an oil change that reduces inflamation and improves motion. Some very active people with minor knee issues do it every 2 or 3 years, and feel better afterwards.

This is NOT a worry at all.
