2019 Potential Free Agency Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tiered positional needs:

Tier one:

Cornerback - you can never have enough and letting BBC/Gaines go creates a clear void.

Starting caliber linebacker - Currently have Schobert and Kirksey, Avery with first dibs to lock down Will with Adarius Taylor and Ray Ray under contract for depth.

Tier Two:

Offensive line depth - I'm never one to jinx myself, but the Browns made it 16 games without a major injury to the offensive line for the first time I can remember. I don't want to gamble on lightning striking twice. In addition, Robinson and Corbett don't seem to be sure things. This is the biggest hole on offense if someone goes down with injury.

Safety depth - I believe in Kindred, but both FS and SS have a whole lot of nothing behind them. One intelligent signing could change this dramatically, but it hasn't happened yet.

Tier Three:

Kicker competition - I have scarring, mentally, from the 2018 season. On the other hand, I have a hard time believing kicker is a priority position.

Fullback - Tony Grossi paid me to mention this, but Orson Charles is a UFA. In certain times of a game, one is very useful. DeValve saw time at FB at times and performed like a fancy pants tea time bunny rabbit.

I think linebacker is in the second tier, with OL in the first tier. I don't think Dorsey values the LB position, and I don't think the duo of Kirksey/Schobert is that bad. Heck, it's possible Avery takes Kirksey's role--and by the way, I'm only counting 2 LB'ers as starters. Base defense is nickle now.

I also think continuing to grow quality depth at DL should be in a tier above kicker and FB.

I don't think Greg Robinson is a good LT. If our offense is always going to be Baker and Kitchens scheming to get the ball out of Baker's hands quickly, then it's fine--but eventually you're gonna want to take advantage of Callaway and OBJ downfield. You're going to want to play action. You're going to want a LT who can hold a block against a speedy edge rusher. Greg Robinson isn't that guy.

I don't think Hubbard's good either--but I trust him to at least be closer to average than Greg Robinson.

I actually think this year will be huge for Desmond Harrison. He has a TON of ability at LT, but he needs to put on the strength to handle bull rushes. If he can do that, watch out.

And defensively, you can never have enough quality defensive linemen. Keep stockpiling.

No argument from me, other than at linebacker they desire immediate impact while they can afford to go for young quantity over quality at OL. Before Zeitler was traded I was concerned with the offensive line. It only takes one bum for the other four to stop being effective in pass protection.

I think we're in agreement.

I'd love to see like a Mack Wilson or an athletic/rangey linebacker taken on the second day.

I'd love some interior offensive lineman on the third day.

I don't buy into Kirksey as a good starter anymore, I really think we need more LB depth. We need 2 safeties and 2 corners imo. We need a backup interior lineman, but I do thikn Robinsons is ok, not good, but ok.

I know we have a draft, but early next week we need to sign 3 or 4 more backups and a starting linebacker imo. Nothing huge money wise, but our depth needs help and that is what free agency is for.

Totally going to New England.

Agreed, makes so much sense. If you are Blake and you know how Bellicheck handles QB's, after stealing so much money from Jacksonville, you go to NE no matter what, even for league min. If his career is going to be revived, NE is the place.

I just want to overpay for the best kicker we can get.

There will be games that come down to kicking, just like last year. I had NO confidence we were going to make any kick.

GET ME A KICKER

Who needs a kicker when you're scoring 80 points a game?

The top two kickers in the draft will be Cole Tracy of LSU and John Baron II of San Diego State. Tracy transferred from a Division II college Assumption State as a graduate, where he was very accurate over his career. After the weirdest season I can remember for kickers, there's no shame in taking one in round 6.
