Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009
For those who saw today's summer league game (must admit, I didn't, but read through the forum's detailed description), you may now have different ideas about the Cavs needs at this point. Apparently, DJ wasn't overwhelming--he's the guy who is currently the first PF off the bench, until JJ proves he is OK. Is AV going to play the entire game?
Now, Barnes would not play many minutes at PF, except in certain situations against certain teams. But I think there is now agreement that he'd be better than TK as a wing player coming off the bench. As I see it, as things now stand, he would be the team's 8th man, only Parker and Z ahead of him coming off the bench. If we do resign Wally, he'd fight it out with him for playing time. That's not the end of the bench by any means...As far as Danny Green is concerned, he seems to have been a good choice, but it's not reasonable to think that he can be the 8th man. But hey, if he turns out to be an all star his first year, I'll gladly eat my words...
If someone has a more plausible option than Barnes, I'll be all for it. Of course, Kleiza would be nice, since he could legitimately play some PF, but until we learn otherwise, he's probably not realistic. There are other wing players out there, most of them have been talked about, but most of you don't seem any more enthusiastic about any of them. Sorry, I don't think that Scottie Pippen can be lured out of retirement.
