2009/10 Preseason Game 8 - Cavaliers @ Celtics

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You can post how ever many assists he has today, that doesn't mean he can run an offense or has looked good tonight.

Yeah, you're right point guards who get assists doesn't mean they're running the offense, it just means they're passing the ball to people who score from the pass. Thanks for correcting me, I was way out of line.

Since it is all about stats with you, how about his 2.4 turnovers per game and 2.8 assists per game this preseason? Along with 42% shooting.

Larry Hughes numbers.

Exactly. I guess stats shows everything for some people. Gibson can't run the offense. It is that simple.

Just put him in the corner where he belongs. I am sick of him taking 10 seconds trying to figure out what the hell is going on and then just passing to someone else on the perimeter anyways.

He is also a bad defender, but that seems fairly obvious and shouldn't have to be stated.

This is why I hope Delonte plays next Tuesday. I don't care that he missed part of training camp and the entire preseason. His first game back he will bring more to the table defensively and offensively than Gibson. I hope Mike Brown doesn't make anything difficult. Just give Delonte minutes, he'll be just fine.

LOL, I'm simply making an analyze. Any modern basketball mind can see that Shaq/Andy will not work in today's game. Spacing is the most important thing in the basketball and Cavs will suck in that department.

Didn't you even watch Magic vs Cavs series, see what Rashard Lewis did to us?

It's not rocket science. If you have 2 players that are slow, unathletic and completely useless outside the paint you're team isn't going to do well. That's why %70 of the modern big men are capable of shooting.

This is basketball ABC. I don't have to wait 'till the season starts to state the obvious.

I wasn't aware that Anderson Varejao was slow and un-athletic. Thanks for educating me on Anderson Varejao.

"Basketball ABC" to me is when your best player and the guy who you base your offense off of decides he's going to mail it in and not even attempt to run an offense, that it becomes pretty clear that it's impossible to analyze anything about the offense when it is being run properly.

I'll agree with you if you said something to the effect of "If LeBron mails it in every game we're doomed", that would be substantiated. You're spewing malarkey based off of a pre-season game with nothing to support your findings.

The funny part is, you picked a game to criticize how a front-court won't work offensively, yet you picked the game where the front-court combined to go 12-20 for 26 points.

Get rid of the chicken little attitude, get real.

Agreed.

Sloppy Delonte > normal Gibson

If Gibson didn't have the unforgettable Game 6 vs Detroit, nobody would want him on this team. His reputation is still living on that one game.

Solid loss.

Shaq played very well, and most of the other players showed some bright spots. Gibson I thought played pretty well. AP played a pretty well-balanced game. Z and Hickson both showed some of what we'll want out of them in the regular season, but we should probably avoid putting them on the floor together too much, the defense falls apart there. Moon was the only one that I thought looked bad. He seemed real out of it, and got kinda torched by Daniels.

Also happy that Delonte was with the team courtside. Would have liked to see him play of course, but the team needs to move at whatever speed suits Delonte and no faster.

Eager to play these guys next week.

How about his 41% shooting from beyond the arc?

I'm not trying to claim Gibson is some stellar point guard, the point is that blanketing a player with the words "he sucks" makes you look stupid when he is positively contributing to the team.

Gibson's responsibilities this year will be limited to shooting threes and handling the ball for less than 5 minutes a game.

I beg to differ. I'll take someone who shoots better than 40% from three on a team that has LeBron James and Shaquille O Neal in a heartbeat.

That's not just Gibson, that's every point guard (or ballhandler for that matter) on our team. Isn't that what we do now? Just pass and screen around the perimeter until the shotclock forces us to do anything?

6 assists can't mean a bad thing.

But again, we don't need this guy to be a true point guard. He's rarely going to be asked to run the team. The only true point guard we have on our team is LeBron.

So many Chicken Littles in here lol. THE SKY IS NOT FALLING!

Other than those last couple "ill-advised" shots, Gibson had a decent game. He also does look kinda awkward taking the ball up the court and FREQUENTLY lost House when he was guarding him. I think people just need to temper their expectations from Boobie. He's not this all-star we thought he was going to become. Is he a solid role player? YES! Is he worth the money? Not as much as he's earning lol.

Is there cause for concern? absolutely! We'll make it through. Wait till EVERYONE is 100%!

Just got back from work. Missed the game but followed it on my phone.

Looks like we didn't do too much tonight. Glad to see the freak-outs are in regular season form already, however :chuckles:

What did I miss....

What happened in regards to the fight?

MANNNNN I am sooooo eager to go to the game next Tues. I'm glad I got nice tickets!

All I care about is if he's knocking down the spot up 3. Last season he wasn't, and that is what bothered me. But if he is an elite 3 point shooter, then I like him on our bench. You need guys like that. Specialists. It's not like we're paying him a ton of money either. He's a role player. He struggles when you try to get him to do more than his role. But so long as he is just doing his role, he's fine.
