I just see oakland going QB for once this year.

That's defintely a need, but I don't see them taking one unless Brady Quinn falls to them or Brian Brohm enters the draft... They already have some money invested in Aaron Brooks and they are still pretty high on Andrew Walter and his abilities...

Hmm.. ick. This has been like every single Browns draft in the past few years... adding a "weapon," an option...

So... if we do draft Peterson, and then Smith in the 2nd round....

Then we'll have Troy Smith at the helm by the end of the season, Peterson / Droughns out of the backfield, Braylon and KW2 receiving, hopefully with JJ as the surefire #2 and maybe Travis Wilson/Cribbs in the slot. But even with this high potential, star studded lineup, it will be behind the worst O-LINE in the NFL, and nothing will be done, as has been for the past few years.

Of course you want our O-line to grow and mature, but it has done nothing to resemble that. We almost fixed it by plugging in LeCharles Bentley, but alas, we got struck down with year after year injury. Aside from that, we've been plugging idiots, half-way guys, and washed ups (Shaffer, Andruzzi) hoping that they'll be able to block. We've never had a big time guy on our line, and now is the time.

I'd rather trade up to get Joe Thomas or Sam Baker in the first, nab up Troy if he's still there in the 2nd, grab the best RB available in the 3rd, and draft some more OL ,some CB depth, and a gargantuan DT in the later rounds.

Sidenote: If we don't take Smith in the 2nd round, then there will be rumblings around Cleveland. He has the hometown nostalgia, everyday fans will point to his success at OSU, and if he succeeds we will be condemned forever. And, above all, he wants to play here.
We of course do NOT take him in the 1st, not with our top-10 pick, as rumblings will come from the other side as pick that should have filled another need first, as interest from other teams are much less than ours. We either trade down to nab him late in the first, or hope he falls to our 2nd rounder.

As far as I'm concerned, the teams that are in the market to draft QB's, in the first round, are as such:

Detroit (Kitna has proven inadequate)
Buffalo (JP Losman is too inconsistent)
Jacksonville (Leftwich is over, Gerrard isn't their man either)
Baltimore

And possibly
Oakland (but are still high on Walter and need WR help)
Green Bay (still have Rodgers to showcase after Favre)
Miami (have needs everywhere, might stick with Daunte/Joey for 1 more)
Houston (might hold off to give Carr some breathing room)
Minnesota (giving Tavaris Jackson his chance this year)
NYJ (RB is more important given their current carousel)

Out of all of these, I believe our #1 threat to lose Troy in the first round would be to Baltimore. Assuming they are eligible, Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russell, and Brian Brohm will likely go before Smith, leaving Baltimore with the decision.

Sad as it may seem, the Browns have always had a fairytale story of the born loser, and considering the Ravens have taken everything away from us in the past, it's only appropriate that they'll look to do it again. They're in a reasonable position to draft him, with McNair aging and the lack of real confidence in Boller. All we can hope is that they turn their interests to a QB in the later rounds, or one of their better prospects falls to them ahead of Smith.

That's an upgrade from Frye and Anderson, IMHO...

This doesn't mean we can't sign of couple offensive linemen via free agency...

We won't need to trade up for Sam Baker... He'll probably be there in the 2nd Round... As far as Joe Thomas, we'll probably have to trade up if we want to get him...

If Troy is there in the 2nd, we better draft him or I'll probably jump through the wall.. There's no way the Browns should make the mistake the Texans made last year...

I honestly think Rueben will be fine.. If he can rush for 1,000+ behind a line of LJ Shelton and Jeff Faine, he should be able to do it, with the return of LeCharles and a couple of free agent signees... I just think if Adrian Peterson is there, you can't afford to pass him up...

Buffalo defintely isn't... JP Losman has really come on of late and proven that he can be their QB...

Jacksonville defintely won't, unless a top QB falls to them...

Green Bay won't after Rodgers falling to them last year..

The Dolphins won't with Daunte...

Houston is an iffy...

Minnesota will defintely be in the market for...

And there's no way New York goes for one.. Chad Pennington has done a great job this year...

Agreed... But, I think that they still have hope for Boller...

Browns will get the #3 pick most likely, with a loss next week.

A win, however, could drop them as low as #7(with other team's losses), since they have a pretty big strength of schedule.

1. Detroit, 2-13, 126 SoS. It looks very likely Detroit will hold or expand this lead on Oakland, given the schedule.
2. Oakland, 2-13, 130 SoS.
3. Cleveland, 4-11, 127 SoS.
4. Tampa Bay, 4-11, 130 SoS.
5. Arizona, 5-10, 118.
6. Houston, 5-10, 122.
7. Washington, 5-10, 123.

We'll get the 3rd pick, take a projected stud, and the Steelers and Patriots will still draft better than us later in the first round..

If we get the #3 pick, we'll take Joe Thomas, and I will be satisfied.

If we take Adrian Peterson, I will cease watching the Browns.

We better lose our last game.

It never fails we lose all year and when we're actually doing well by losing we pull out a W...

Dorsey will have the game of his life against the Texans and cause us to slip down five picks.

why are you so against peterson?

^^Cause he's never healthy, and we had a proven NFL 1200 yard rusher who couldn't do a damn thing this year behind this line this season..

It's time to build the line.. Forget all the sexy picks and skill position guys.. We need some stability up front...

Are you guys that oblivious to think that we need to go anything but OL with the 1st pick if Joe Thomas is there? We have a rag tag offensive line that would have to rank in the bottom 3 of the entire league.

Bentley won't be back next year if ever...so we need to start addressing the line as I'm sure Isaac Sowells will get cut sometime next season along with the majority of Savage's other 2nd day picks...

Uhh... How's Leon Williams looking right now?

Give the guy a chance... He's never even touched foot on the football field because of the injuries he's had throughout the offseason..

Travis Wilson - he'd get some PT if Crennel would stop being so stubborn
Jerome Harrison - he's not on the field because he can't block
Babatunde Oshinowo - wasn't big enough... but we not take a risk in the 6th rd?
Justin Hamilton - backup safety

Let me point out that Daven Holly looks like a find...

I like Savage don't get me wrong...

Some solid picks but look who stuck after his first draft? You can't afford to shank that many picks on Day 2...

And if Crennel is so hell bent on playing rookies than why don't we deal some draft picks for veterans? It makes no sense not to play these guys if your drafting them...especially considering they outplay the "vets" we have.

Just let me point something out:

4 2nd day picks are currently backups
1 is currently starting (and may challenge for a starting spot next year)
1 is on our PS
2 could challenge for starting spot next year

I really don't know what else to expect from the 2nd day... I mean solid backups is all you can ask for.. Travis Wilson and Leon Williams have loads of potential and look like they will be solid backups if they don't pan out to full potential...

Ken Dorsey
Ross Tucker
Lennie Friedman
Trent Dilfer

All of those guys were acquired using low 2nd day draft picks...

Savage can't do anything about that... It's all in Crennel's hands..

Some of these guys have outplayed vets.... And it's boggled my mind that Crennel still let the vets play and benches the "rookies"...

The Browns have sapped all my energy as a fan after the latest embarrassment at home. And I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to Cleveland sports - I just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel for this team.

I've had my trusty Browns tire cover on my Jeep for over 5 years now... but it was retired today. My wife bought me an Indians one for Christmas and I put it on today.

What I'm trying to say is that the Browns have been so bad for so long now that even I have lost hope. It's a pretty sad thing. Oh I'll still watch them, I'll still support them, I'll likely still renew my season tickets... hell, I will probably still occasionally debate about them here. But I need a break - right now they don't deserve our time.
