2010 Indians Game Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We could not have asked for anything more than we received. Thanks Yanks.

For a minor league free agent with an invite to camp? Yeah, I'll take any team's #5 prospect.

I am surprised we got their 5th best prospect. That is a steal for Kearns. However, their minor league system must blow if their 5th best prospect has an ERA over 5.

He was their 5th best prospect coming into this season before he struggled so much in Triple A.

McAllister's just 22 years old in Triple A so the fact that he's still young for his level is a good sign at least. He didn't repeat any levels before this year, so this is his first real speed bump. Next year when he repeats Triple A, if he still struggles, then its more cause for concern.

Yep. Second best pitching prospect as well. For Kearns? I call it quite a steal and totally NO risk at all.

The Yankees don't exactly have the best farm system but I guess it was a good deal.

While everyone was glued to Cincinnati Reds box scores and Stephen Strasberg elbow updates, the Indians put together a 3-game win streak. LaPorta with an extra-base hit in every game, Brantley with a hit in every game since coming back, and even Hafner is hitting over .300 when he plays. Nix continues to get extra base hits and made a nice play tonight at 3B. He has very little experience @ 3B, but I think he has shown he can be a productive bat in his short stint with the Tribe. I kind of hope if they don't want him for 3B that they bring him to camp next year with a legit chance of competing for the 2B job.

I've always loved when teams test their prospects instead of babying them and waiting until they are 24 or so til they give him a shot (cough Santana cough). The reason I bring it up is Chris Sale struck out the side today against the Indians. He has 9 appearances now, 14 K's, and has allowed one run (which was a runner that Jenks inherited and allowed to score). And oh by the way, Sale was the 13th pick of THIS years draft. Already showing what he can do at the highest level. I'm not saying that the Indians should run Pomeranz out there tomorrow, and I know every organization has different circumstances (i.e. all of Chicago's lefty relievers being hurt), but man... it must be nice to cheer for an organization that is willing to fast track prospects that quickly instead of being a bunch of penny pinching pussies and not finding out what they have because of service clocks, etc.

it's only been a few innings but carrasco looks really good, light-years better than last year. he's doing a good job of mixing speeds, changing locations, and keeping the ball down

If Chicago wasn't fighting for a playoff spot Sale would probably be in A ball, maybe AA.

Exactly. If the Sox' bullpen wasn't as bad as it is he wouldn't have been pressed into service like this. Not to mention that he is accumulating service time and has been added to the 40-man roster. The Sox would be stupid not to stretch him back out into a starter for next year; do they really plan on doing that in the bigs? Good luck with that if they do.

When teams do that, I always think Joba. High risk, High reward.

Probably going to jinx him here, but Carlos Carrasco with an overall good start to the game tonight. He got into immediate trouble in the first with two walks and a hit, but he got out of it, which is of special importance with him. Keeping his composure and avoiding the big inning were the big Achilles heel for him with the Phillies. If he can take a spot in the rotation it would make the outlook for next season a hell of alot brighter.

According to Lastoria, Masterson being moved to the bullpen for the rest of the season due to concern about the number of innings pitched this season. Will remain a starter candidate in ST, though.

TonyIPI #Indians RHP Justin Masterson officially moved to bullpen for rest of year. At 166IP & IP threshold was 180. Will goto ST still a starter.

Justin had a difficult time mid-June to early August, but his last 5 starts were impressive (went 3-2, 32.2 IP, 9 ER, 23 K, 13 BB, ERA 2.48). While his overall stats were not impressive, I feel he has earned another shot at starting next season - especially on a team that will be starved for starters.

Masterson has ace potential...

He will be key if this team expects to improve next season.

Looked like a totally different guy now as opposed to earlier in the season, he's commanding all of his pitches EVERY night.

He's gonna be a good one IMO.
