2012 Baseball Offseason Player Movement Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anibal Sanchez to the Cubbies. Dominoes continue to fall . . .

Well as a fan of the Mariners, I guess our window of opportunity starts in 2018.....

I like Josh Hamilton, and I agree that LA of Anaheim may not have enough pitching....however beating everybody 14-11 may be enough to get to the World Series.

Mariners may still be in on Swisher. We'll see. I'd rather see him go there than Texas, assuming he is not coming to Cleveland.

M's are going to have to trade one of their prospects for a proven bat....especially with the "appeal" of moving the fences in this season at Safeco...

At the end of 2012, I would have thought the Tribe was looking at a couple of years rebuild, but with the hiring of Francona and the signings of Reynolds and the trade for Stubbs, and the pursuit of another bat, I think that the FO thinks it can contend in a relatively weak AL Central in 2013. I liked Manny Acta, but obviously, Francona is an upgrade and I think maybe the FO is/was thinking, "we were leading the division in the 1st half the last 2 seasons, we just petered out." Jimenez I think is the key for the Tribe in 2013.

The Cubs signing Sanchez is a bit of a surprise. The Cubs are awful young, and may contend in 2-3 years. I'm guessing they're expecting Sanchez to be the ace to anchor the staff in 2015-16

Sanchez is NOT an ace, sorry. He did well as a #4 with the Tigers. Half a season and he thinks he's just as good as Verlander? Please.

Also, yesterday it was rumored that the Tigers and Mariners were discussing Brennan Boesch. Possibly for a lefty reliever..maybe the Tigers can get Furbush back. Yes, I said Furbush.

@BNightengale

The #Cubs, who thought they had a deal with Sanchez, are still waiting. The #Tigers are indeed being given last chance to match.

Not so fast on Sanchez.

The Fister Furbush combo sets up perfectly though, too perfectly.

The #Cubs, among others, did not know that #Tigers would have last chance to match. And the #Tigers have just bumped their offer to Sanchez.

Yeah, I know. I just meant that lesser free agents will begin to sign now. Cleveland may be in play for one or more of them. At least I hope so.

Once Texas caves and signs Swisher I hope the Tribe can bring in Jackson at a 'reasonable' deal (3-4 years).

I agree.

I have been watching the Mariners the past few years because I love watching Felix pitch, and that is exactly what they need to do. I have a feeling that the Rockies are going to get desperate soon and deal Carlos Gonzalez for pitching. That would be the ideal fit for the M's...plus they have the pitching to do it.
