I know, I know it's early and the 2011 draft just ended but I thought it'd be cool to see who everybody's early season draft crushes are before both seasons start..

It was hard for me to get off of my draft crush of Vontaze Burfict, who is a stud, but I think I found someone who will make me call him my 2012 draft crush..

His name is Bruce Irvin... He's a 6'3 245lb. senior who played his first year of college football at West Virginia after transferring from JUCO... He was 2nd in the nation with 14 sacks playing as a OLB in the 3-3-5 WVU defense.. His combination of speed, power and hands is scary...

Tell me you wouldn't want this guy on this defensive line? BEAST!

I think most people on here have a crush with Andrew luck already

Where is Irvin projected to go in the draft? IS he better than Q Couples from NC. I think we will go LB or DE with our first pick as of today

40 Time: 4.54 40 Low: 4.43 40 High: 4.65
Projected Round: 1 Stock: up
Rated number 2 out of 201 OLB's 6 / 2561 TOTAL

don't really know much about this guy, i've never seen him play and I can't tell much from highlight reels. how does he get his sacks? as a one trick pony (wimbley and his shoulder dip) or with a bunch of moves? Also, I know heckert loves his small DE's, but will he and sheard hold up against the run well enough to let taylor and rubin do their jobs?

Being that we have two first rounders Smooth. I'm going to assume that this is your choice for our first rounder (which will most likely be before ATL's). Now I'd like to ask who would you like with ATL's pick? Is their any good FS's that will be projected around their in the first?

Alshon Jeffery is mine. He is tall, fast, physical, good hands, and he is a Gamecock.

If this guy was in this years draft i wouldve wanted him over AJ Green.

That song in the video Smooth posted, might be one of the worst songs I've ever heard...

Anyways, I'll go with a popular choice of Vontaze Burfict and Luke Kuechly, both LB's

If this guy was in this years draft i wouldve wanted him over AJ Green.

He was a sophomore last year and was already so impressive. He grew up about 20 minutes from where I used to live. He was a man among boys in HS. Part of me hopes he goes to the NFL next year, but the South Carolina fan in me wants him to stay in garnet and black forever. :chuckles:

how can we talk about the 2012 draft already. can we at least play a couple games before we talk about draft? seems like all this town cares about is the nba and nfl drafts. if the mlb draft were a little bigger we'd care about that too. can we @ least wait till the season ends to talk draft? sheesh.

No.

This post is hysterical coming from the king of the useless advice thread. Smooth was just asking what players we like in the 2012 draft, not to mock the whole thing out.

It's certainly justified with the type of QB prospect that he will be... But unless the Browns really, really suck then he's likely out of reach... Now the Browns could package they're whole draft for him but that's more unlikely than them sucking...

Where is Irvin projected to go in the draft? IS he better than Q Couples from NC. I think we will go LB or DE with our first pick as of today

Right now Irvin is projected 20th overall by NFLDraftScout... Not too many draft websites have their big boards up this early at this point but he's likely in the 20-50 range right now... But in the end if he keeps up his production, I see him being a legit top-15 talent..

I haven't seen enough of Coples to compare him to anyone at this point.. Coples was a bit hard to evaluate on last year's tape because he was playing at DT a lot and not at his projected DE spot in the NFL... From what I saw, he definitely has the body and run-stopping ability, I just didn't see enough of him on the edge to say anything about it... All I can go by is everybody having him in their top-5 prospects...

Based on where this team is at right now, WR, DE and LB look to be the biggest holes following this season... The interesting thing is that Heckert is very DL and DB oriented early on and waits on LBs... He's taken WRs all over before...

Here's some game tape:

<iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UUCk9jVF5z8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/me5hL6ob7MM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/So3cc75Ng2g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

From watching him, he has a nice combination of a speed rush and a bull rush... He completely bulled over some OTs which is impressive for a guy his size... His explosiveness off the snap is also very impressive and his closing speed coming around the corner is something eye opening.. The other thing that impressed me was his quick and powerful hands, which shouldn't be overlooked... Hand play for defensive lineman is one of the most important things to success in the trenches...

I wouldn't worry about any Wimbley comparisons... I'm not sure Wimbley ever showed the ability to bull rush like Irvin and his explosiveness is better... Wimbley lived off of his speed, I don't think Irvin does...

I certainly think Sheard will because he has the strength and size to... He was a solid run stopper in college and he should be going forward... Irvin has good strength for his size but he's only 245lb. and would get exposed right now...

Being that we have two first rounders Smooth. I'm going to assume that this is your choice for our first rounder (which will most likely be before ATL's). Now I'd like to ask who would you like with ATL's pick? Is their any good FS's that will be projected around their in the first?

With where Irvin is projected right now (#20 by NFLDraftScout), yes I'd take him with our first pick assuming the Browns are in the 10-15 range...

Continuing with the NFLDraftScout projection and assuming the Falcons are mid-late 20's, I'm going with Vontaze Burfcit... I'd be perfectly happy with him at our first pick so with our 2nd pick I'd be absolutely thrilled...

I'm hoping Usama Young locks down the FS spot but guys to watch are Markelle Martin (OK State), TJ McDonald (USC) and Janzen Jackson (Tennessee & Glenville Grad)... But the guy who looks to be the top safety prospect is Robert Lester out of Alabama... Mark Barron and Dre Kirkpatrick are getting the hype right now but Lester may be the best out of their secondary...

I've always been a huge fan of the draft regardless of where the Browns or Cavs are at... It has nothing to do with me hoping the Browns or Cavs lose and get a high pick, I just like the whole notion of evaluating, following and drafting prospects... I also think it's cool to see who liked who at the beginning of the year..

If you visit the OBR, they have a whole forum dedicated to year-round Draft talk...

BTW: as far as Jeffrey, Burfcit and Kuechly, all great choices... I'd be extremely happy with any of those guys...
