2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Jeremy Lamb worked his way into the conversation at 4, especially if Beal doesn't measure well.

If that's there guy I imagine they'd find a way to trade with Portland and take him at 6.

I just can't wait until next May when all the rookies are finishing up their year and we can publicly bash whoever we want for their stance on this draft. A lot of people are going to be wrong, one way or another.

I've always loved Lamb's game and size, it seems tailor-made for a similar role coming off screens in the NBA. It's a shame his motor is so hot and cold, since he's got an all-around offensive game and could be a great defender if he focuses on it and gains some weight. He also knocked down some huge shots this last season.

Personally, I don't see Cavs management taking Lamb over Barnes. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I just can't see that happening.

I've got a growing suspicion that the Cavs are going to fall head over heels in love with Barnes after workouts. As a few others have pointed out, with a good showing at the Draft Combine, combined with Beal measuring in a little small, I believe that Barnes could very well be the pick.

I wouldn't be in favor of passing on Beal for Barnes, but I couldn't be upset with the pick, because I think we're going to get a great player either way.

I just like Beal's game a little more. That, and the fact that this draft's depth at SF will stretch well into the range of our 2nd rounders. I think that makes it an easier position to address than SG, comparing the players available at the two positions relevant to what pick we'd be using.

Here's the Robinson argument--
1) Robinson & Tristan might compliment each other. Robinson does the positional defense, defensive rebounding and scoring from called plays. Tristan is good with shot blocking, offensive rebounding, and scoring from chaos.
2) In theory, drafting Robinson might allow the Cavs to consider trading Varejao for a wing or guard.

Just wanted to quote this and remind people that having T-Rob isn't a horrible thing by any stretch, even if he's a little older. He played behind the Morris twins and is a good teammate who willingly sounds like can play anywhere on the roster, even on the bench.

The only problem I'm worried about is having two guys not reach their full potential because they're both good enough to eventually play 32-36 minutes but only look good enough to play sparingly... It might stunt their growth...

Beal is going to drop and he should. I dont believe that small 2 guards win in this league. I think we end up with either barnes or drummond. I dont think this a bad thing. We will get either Q miller or fournier with the 24 pick.

This is per @Probasketballdraft on twitter:

The #Cavs worked out Marquis Teague yesterday. Went against Reggie Hamilton. #NBADraft

Teague's teammate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is working out at a Cleveland-area HS today. Not for any particular team.

I think the Cavaliers are already very 'fond' of Harrison Barnes, dating back to last season when they would have taken him with one of their 2 high picks, had he come out. Heck, I'm not so sure they wouldn't have taken Barnes ahead of Irving last year as the #1 pick overall. Remember, Kyrie only played 11 games as a freshman and Harrison had a larger body of work.

While Barnes's stock is down with many, I'm not so sure it is with the Cavaliers. I think they like him alot and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they take him at #4, provided he's there. I think the like him ahead of Beal and about equally with MKG.

I think the Cavs scouts are already in love with Barnes and the stats guys are going to tell them to go on a couple dates with T-Rob between now and draft night. Barnes looks the part of the player they want to add and T-Rob has a high floor and allows them to look at trading Varejao.

MKG probably gets the nod for the #4 pick if he's on the board, but after that it's Barnes and T-Rob.

If the Cavs are convinced that Beal is an awesome shooter like the scouts say, Beal could get into the conversation, but the stat guys are going to have real doubts about Beal's "awesome shooter" merit badge. He just wasn't an awesome shooter last year. I don't think the Cavs take the plunge on Beal unless they can explain that 33% 3pt shooting last season. If Beal's 3pt shooting doesn't improve, he's not a good value at the #4 pick.

Agree. Outside shooting is supposed to be Beal's forte and he looks spectacular in some of the workout videos that have been posted. Beal looks to be a true 6'3" SG, which is going to hurt his stock some, coupled with the 33% he put up from 3 point range this past year. Some guys can shoot lights out in practice, but can't duplicate that during games. Not saying he's one of those guys, as I know he played out of position at SF & with two absolute chuckers at UF.

Barnes has NBA size and he put up good numbers playing for one of the top programs in the NCAA. I think they see him as a prototypical SF in the NBA, catch & shoot guy or not.

Last year's Mavericks, Joe Dumars, and Wade all disagree. I realize that is a small sample size, but I do not think it is smart to write Beal off simply due to his size.

I'm not worried at all we slipped to 4, even though I wanted MKG I'm confident we'll make the right pick.

On paper, Irving/Fournier/Barnes complement each other very nicely. Irving and Fournier would keep the defense on their heels by driving and dishing relentlessly and Barnes' knock down shooting ability would create space for them.
Defensively they're all pretty long for their position and fairly good athletes and they should be able to defend on the perimeter effectively.

If we take Drummond I'll be a little more worried but I think Cleveland is the best team for him to succeed: we can wait a couple of years for him to develop since we're far from contending and I think the young core we have, especially with a young hard working big in TT, could help him overcome his mental softness and the flaws in his game. His lack of feel for the game and his goofiness are big red flags though. I really don't see Grant picking him from a personality standpoint. He does remind me of JJ Hickson in that regard.

I wouldn't mind Beal and Robinson either. Though I have a feeling Barnes will suprise people as a pro if he's put in the right situation.

Come on June 28th! Hurry!

PS: avatar updated, adios MKG :(

Just checked, and a LOT of mock drafts have either MKG or Beal falling to at least #4. That makes me feel a little better. People value TRob much more than us since we already have Tristan.
