2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure why Barnes gets the hate he does. Maybe he's not the super athlete and playmaker people thought he would be coming out of high school. But he still has an extremely high basketball IQ, is an excellent shooter, and would be a great piece next to Irving and Thompson.

I am confused about the "high basketball IQ" comment I keep seeing in relation to Barnes. Can someone define how they get this? I remember seeing him fire up shot after shot in the tourney and not even being close. He clanged at least 3 shots off the backboard, no rim that I remember. He averages more turnovers than assists. Where is this upside? Playmaker?? Man, I must have missed his good games.

Barnes had a pretty low turnover % for such a high usage rate and supposedly awful ball-handling skills (ball handling is more than just dribbling when driving). For reference, Kyrie had a 16% TOV in college with a 26% USG. Barnes had 11% TOV with a 28% USG.

That is because he shot the ball almost every time it hit his hands.

Maybe he wants to be like Kobe, shooting airballs in playoffs against the Jazz, looking like he's trying to do too much in his first ever "playoffs". (and Kobe might go out the same way!)

Man I hated watching that the first time around. But Kobe surprised me with the career he had. I don't know if Barnes has the same drive, but if he does, he'd probably be annoying in a lot of the same ways. Just sayin'... Glad I'm not the GM.

I don't know if people will like Barnes, but maybe they'll like what he does on the court, eventually.

Or maybe the Cavs should draft on likability like last year. It worked out!

Lol? Barnes was criticized for not shooting/creating for himself enough, and was said to disappear for stretches. Don't know where you got that he's a chucker because he definitely is not.

I'll be stepping away for ever if this team drafts Barnes. At 6 he is a good pick, at 4 he is garbage. If all you want out of a top 5 pick in a supposedly deep draft is Shane Battier than more power to you, but i'd prefer to get a potential all star.

Wow. Really dude? That's just insane...

He got a lot of open shots in college, sure; but he was also the focus of the defense a lot of the time. His assists scare me, no doubt. But his defense will come in due time. LeBron wasn't know for defense his first few years in the league, now look at him. Good coaching at the pro level goes a long way, and I think the Cavs have one of the better coaches/mentors in the league.

He was not the focus all that often. Teams had to worry about plenty of others.

Lebron was an elite athlete. Barnes is at best an average NBA athlete.

Id rather trade 4, 24, and one of our 2nds for the #2 pick, instead of taking Barnes at 4... If we can't do that, atleast trade down to like 6 and gain extra assets and get Barnes

That's pretty sure. What do you know that scouts don't?

Well, it takes just one stupid scout/gm to take Barnes top 5-so we will see. We can bookmark this thread and check back in a few years to see.

I am basing this off of what I have seen in addition to the stats. I watched quite a few Carolina games just waiting to see this "great" Harrison Barnes. I never saw it.

after the TT pick, if we pick Barnes, I'll be livid and right along with mdog in stepping back.

I don't dislike the person Harrison Barnes. I don't care what he does off the court. I only care what he could do on the court for the Cavs..and I just don't see a good NBA player. Can I be wrong? Absolutely. But I am willing to bet I won't be.

All of you criticize barnes so heavily but the dude is 18.

If we draft barnes you have to keep in mind we have a pg that is going to keep him involved and i mean our coach isnt at all known for developing talent right?

The dude is 18 and can easily work to be more agressive and become better at ball handling. Thats more than half the battle right there.

I bet you if he could handle the ball better he would be more confident with creating his own shot.

Barnes is not my first choice but all the scouting reports i have read say he is a hard worker.

Let someone like Byron Scott get ahold of him and you never know what you might get.

He already has the size and can also defend and shoot so let him develop some handles and become more agressive.

Out of all the things that a player could work on those have to be two of the easiest.

He doesnt have to have the most terrific first step in the world all he needs to do is be agressive and attack.

I guarantee that can easily change.

Dont get so lost in what you have seen.

Keep in mind how much better he was with a good point guard.

I dont understand how people can still back Barnes, he's not even decent.. He's a one trick pony (calm down deezy and jig) and even that's fallen off. There simply isnt a redeeming basketball skill in his body that validates a #4 pick.
