2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll be stepping away for ever if this team drafts Barnes. At 6 he is a good pick, at 4 he is garbage. If all you want out of a top 5 pick in a supposedly deep draft is Shane Battier than more power to you, but i'd prefer to get a potential all star.

Credence for the "too obvious" theory.

Really? Shane Battier?

Well I'd rather have Battier with size than the next Randy Foye.

See I can do that too.

Now, on to serious discussion please.

So at 6 he's a good pick.....but at 4 he's such a bad pick then you'd step away from the team forever?

Please step away from the computer and hug your parents.

At 4 I think we should shoot higher than Battier, at 6 when the choices will be PJ3, Lamb, Rivers, etc then he is as good of a pick as any of them as all of them will be scrubs. This "deep draft" is not very deep. There are 5 players who are worthwhile, and one of them is a PF so it makes 4 for us (TRob). If Barnes is our pick at 4 and Drummon/MKG/Beal are still on the board then I am done, and it is a guarantee that at least one of them wil be. Thankfully I don't believe Grant is an idiot, although he has a chance to prove me wrong.

At least I was generous with my Battier comparison. You are just down right idiotic.

I hate when posters say things like "if they draft ____ I'll never be a fan again." If that's the case why even be a fan or invest energy into sports? Barnes is what he is. He'd make the team better and excel next to Kyrie.

If the Cavaliers still like Barnes then they believe he will be better in the NBA than in college.
But they are basing that on....???

His first step isn't good enough to get by a lot of guys in college. In the NBA they are only bigger, stronger, and faster. How will he be better there?
He's a decent defender but not amazing and is held back by his physical limitations (athleticism, quickness). How is that going to change?
Maybe his...ball handling will improve? That's...cool, I guess.

I guess I just don't understand how a guy who struggled against such weak competition will suddenly excel against elite competition even though he can't really change the reasons he struggled.

Expectations (that he didn't even come close to scratching the surface of, btw) aside, how much has he improved since his freshman year? Honestly? Is a guy who struggled that much in college going to be that different in the NBA?

Meh. I think this is more of a smokescreen anyway, or the Cavs are really really awful at playing their cards tight ot their chest. Hopefully it's the former.

Oh please don't be so generous next time.

We get it, you don't like Barnes. However, you are overreacting and you know that.

For everyone saying Barnes struggled in college - while he didn't meet ridiculously high expectations, he still put up better numbers than every other prospect we're considering at 4. I'm not sure why that is being completely ignored. His struggles are being vastly overstated. And for some reason it's just assumed he won't improve his game at all outside of shooting.

I'm tired of having to defend Barnes because I don't even like him that much, but too many people aren't being fair to him compared to Beal/MKG. And it all gets back to the pre-college hype that has 0 relevance as to who he his as a player now and whether we should draft him.

true. although Id be surprised if any of these guys are around after they drafted TT.

Even with Harrison Barnes' lack of burst and ballhandling issues the difference between their shooting and shot making ability is pretty vast.

Barnes shot 44% and 35% from three in his second year in college--the sample size is now larger with Barnes--two years in college and he has yet so show he is a "good" shooter let alone a great one....and this was with a LOT of open shots due to how good his PG was and all the other talent N. Carolina had on the floor. He average 1.1 assists per game. Only 5 boards. If he was a great defender then I might be ok with all this--but he is average at best on the defensive side. I am 98% sure that Q Miller and Harkless will be better NBA players long term than Barnes.

In the NCAA tourney he shot 32% from the floor!!!! 23% from three! And he had some very favorable matchups and could do nothing with them.

I want nothing to do with Barnes.

The more I think about the Barnes-Cavs reports, the more they seem like a smokescreen.

It isn't about stats though. It is about how a players skills will translate in the NBA. I think Barnes will be a good player in the NBA, but I hope that we are trying to draft someone who is better than good at 4.

He got a lot of open shots in college, sure; but he was also the focus of the defense a lot of the time. His assists scare me, no doubt. But his defense will come in due time. LeBron wasn't know for defense his first few years in the league, now look at him. Good coaching at the pro level goes a long way, and I think the Cavs have one of the better coaches/mentors in the league.

MDog - chill out with the hyperbole. No need to fight about Barnes across multiple threads. We get it...
