2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really don't think any of us know who the Cavs are trying to get. People are assuming its Beal because the Wizards traded for Trevor Ariza, but like Rich just said, who's to say Ariza precludes them from taking MKG?

I have no clue at this point, and frankly, no one else really does either.

It's just this whole Beal to Washington was no lock last week. ONly after the trade did everyone under the sun have Beal going there, and I can't see who on Earth would draft based on position instead of best player available solely because of Ariza. If you think MKG is better, you still draft him with or w/o Ariza on your team.

So you willingly take on a terrible contract knowing you're about to take a guy that plays the same position?

I mean...that doesn't add up.

You also picked up a serviceable C and got rid of an even worse contract. Then there's still the BPA over fit rule.
And finally, Ariza is fast, with good speed, lateral quickness, a decent dribble and solid passing skills. Why is everybody so locked in on him being a SF? He can play SG for long stretches.

lmao, Ariza's a scrub. Injury prone, gets Rondo treatment on jumpers, overrated on defense nowadays.

And he's a scrub already.

I'm sorry, I read the 30 in his B-day and mistook that for his age.

Sorry about that. My statement still stands, though. Ariza's kinda a srcub.

Why the hell would Golden State make that trade? They have David Lee and just acquired Andrew Bogut.

I can't see new owners coming in and making their 1st impression by trading the 7th pick to shed some salary and add a guy that will be bench player for them.

A fan favorite. A guy who the fans can get behind and love. He's exactly what the doctor ordered for a team that was hated by its own fans last season.

Most people in here are certain that we are at least 2 seasons from contending. So the argument that Beal is a better pick than MKG because he’ll compliment the roster better in the short term doesn’t make sense all by itself. You don’t have to recruit an all-star to find a 2 that will give you solid perimiter shooting. The “horrors” of having MKG +TT on the same squad developing their offense next year is really no big deal. In fact, it conforms to the “one more tank strategy” that so many endorse.

I think that most trends are overated in sports. But there’s one trend I will buy into after watching both teams that made the finals this year. For the next 5-10 years, a 1st team NBA shutdown defender (granted he has some offense) on the wing will be a higher commodity that an elite perimeter shooter. In large part because perimeter shooting is an easier problem to solve, and the former barely exists.

Kyrie is anything but Rondo when it comes to perimeter shooting, so he’s already stretching the defense with and without the ball. We have at least the rest of this draft, plus 2013, 2014 drafts and 3 free agencies to find a solid perimeter shooting 2 guard over the next 2 years ( if that’s a significant time frame to you).

Beal may be NBA ready (we’re not contending for a while) he may even be a perrenial all-star. But if MKG can get a C- jumper he could be the (healthy) 1990’s Grant Hill + shut down defense. In other words, a superstar. That jumper sucks so bad that it probably won’t be totally fixed in 2 years but I’ll role the dice that he’ll work it out eventually and be a total monster. Beal doesn’t have that kind of upside. And we don’t need a “perfect fit” for next year. I still think that the Cavs are probably thinking this way and if they both drop to 4 it’s about 60/40 they’ll take MKG.

Don’t let these rumors distract you from the truth. MKG is still pretty much the shit.

Literally compared MKG to Grant Hill. I said 'oh my God' incredulously when I read this. I don't think MKG will EVER be able to carry an offense or even be set up for isolations for that matter on a regular basis - for a while.

Just go for ice cream. We're going to be bad regardless.

I just cannot fathom the hype on this guy. I've seen him compared to Pippen, Hill, Iguodala, Crash, etc. I just don't see it. Yeah, he's a good player with great passion, but why is panned to be so great?

I'm talking about his upside. He's 18 years old, very strong and quick at his position, at 233lb. Take another look in a while.

Comparing MKG to Grant Hill is bad, Hill was a sure ballot HOFer coming out of college, noone is even projecting MGK anywhere near that

How good was Grant Hill?

I am quiet new to the NBA. Never saw him in his prime in all honesty

Hill was a lot like LeBron but not quite as good of a scorer and not as gifted psychically; Though he wasn't exactly short changed in that department. He could rebound the hell out of the ball, be your primary ball handler and playmaker and could also get you 20-25 points per game on good efficiency.
